How can someone be claimed as insane? In the case of Andrea Yates, she was found not guilty by reasons of insanity. Clearly Andrea Yates was insane because of what she did. Andrea Yates murdered her five children. Andrea Yates has thought about killing her children for quite a while before she really did kill her children. Her husband Rusty Yates knew about his wife trying to kill their children and caught Andrea before she did it the first time. Andrea Yates attempted to kill her kids before and she didn’t kill them in earlier attempts because she didn’t think she was ready. I believe that Andrea Yates was insane because she has pre-planned killing her kids before and she finally did it.…

Trying to go to school the next day. Standing in the shower thinking maybe if I dont get out I wouldn't have to start my day and move on with it all. But as the water turns to a shivering cold I realize it’s all too real. Pushing through the first five periods of the day, the last three seemed as too much. Feeling as if I will never be able to be happy again. All these gloomy days crafted me into who I am today. This whole experience making me grow up just a little bit faster, and a little more mature and understanding seeming as I already live the life as an adult, but only being a…

In the world of politics, one of the most important things is who you know. Knowing people will bring a politician success. Chris Matthew stressed one-on-one communication and “retail politics” in this first chapter of his book. He knows firsthand because he was in Washington for many years observing and learning. Not only is it necessary to know as many people as possible, but it is also important to make the person feel that their concerns are cared for on a personal level. Knowing people is not only important in the political world, but it is also important in the real world. The more people you know, the more opportunities will arise for you. In the book Chris Matthew talks about how many popular politicians rose to the top because they made the effort to get to know everyone, especially those who are important. This can apply to any work environment. Networking is a very important part of life. It is important for all of us to remember to treat each person with care because they will potentially be important in our lives.…

After my first week of the Summer Bridge Program at Penn St-Abington, I learned a lot about the differences between high school and college. I really understand in high school that you must be there during the allotted hours, success rides on the teacher, and that we can get away from not reading the text for class and in college you have more freedom, harder courses, and longer hours of studying. We learned how to become an efficient and effective learner. What I learned from that lesson is that, I have to focus much more and study much harder then what I did in high school. Also that college is no joke since it’s a privilege and that high school is a right that we have to go. To me the most effective strategy I learned is how to become a better listener and how to be a successful student in college. The way I’m going to be a better listener is by using study strategies, note taking strategies and go to a tutoring center if I have trouble. What I learned so far relates to the present is that some strategies I never used or thought about. In the future, I’m going to use tutoring center or use the professor’s office time for any question I don’t understand. In conclusion, I learned so far is going to change the way I look at college. I understand now that college is no place to mess around. It’s a place where you chose what you want to do in the long…

Today wasn’t a good day, it was worst than most days. My brother and I woke up at 4:30am in order to be at the factory at 5:00am. We ate the leftover bread we didn’t eat for dinner on the run to the factory, but it was raining today, unfortunately, and that made us late. Which was what started our horrible day, despite the fact that I actually love rain, the sound it makes when it hits the ground is calming, but I don’t like the consequences it brought my brother and I today.…

All Summer in a Day written by Ray Bradbury teaches us to not take our anger out on other people. All of the kids at the school were very mean to Margot for no reason. She did nothing to the kids, they got jealous beacuse she had seen the sun and remembered it. The kids also made fun of her for looking different, acting different and talking different.…

No one has looked happy here in awhile but as the word goes around everyone's face start to light up. As the day went along rescue helicopters arrived empty and left full. Everyone seemed happier that day. Finally a helicopter came and my family got on. We took off and the joy in everyone's face died as quickly as it came. All of New Orleans was flooded. You couldn’t tell one building from the next. The only thing visible was roofs, and if a building was tall enough you could see a couple of floors. Trees were under water and tipped over. As we were flying no one bothered to ask where we were going. Everyone just silently sat there and stared down at the destroyed city. Every now and then somebody would point out a building. Finally after a long drought of silence the pilot proclaimed “ We’re taking you to the Astrodome in Houston Texas for now, but you’ll be in much better care their, and you’ll be allowed to leave the…

Life can change in the blink of an eye, and we learned this lesson rather quickly. We had been so focused on moving to our new home that the news of the approaching storm seemed of little or no importance. Everyone there seemed very at ease, most talked about going through Hurricane Camille, and how this storm would likely move closer to Texas and we had nothing to worry about. We stopped from packing for an hour or so, and decided to go out for a bite of lunch at a nearby restaurant. That was the moment that made everything seem surreal, people were frantically packing into stores in droves. Long lines everywhere and traffic was congested with people getting on highway 90 and heading out of town. After we ate a sense of urgency filled us, with what do we do now? We made our way to Wal-Mart, and spent several hours gathering food, flashlights, candles, bottled water, batteries and wood to cover our windows at home. Also we stopped at a locally designated place to get sandbags to stop water from coming in if floodwaters got…

The rain was coming down even faster and harder than yesterday and it was already miserable. I walked to my hole touching my bag which was drenched, hoping it would be a lucky day, but already figured out after the first shot it was bound to be another long one. It took a long forty-five minutes for the first one and a half holes, and all the sudden one of the best things happened. The sirens went off! We all marked our ball and headed to the clubhouse where we found out that we were done golfing and play was not going to resume. This was the best news that I had heard in the past two days, and I was ecstatic to be…

We enjoyed the atlantic ocean, the warm white sand, and the scorching hot sun. We could hear the huge waves crashing into the sandy shore. We could also hear the lively chatter of the people on the beach. The smell of the salty ocean and the banana boat sunscreen overtook the air with mass quantities of the two smells combined. The touch of the hot sand on your feet and the rough seashells on shore. The best part of the day was when me and my brother went kayaking for an hour out into the deep blue sea. It took fifteen long minutes to fight our way over the…

We were all in my living room watching the news on updates of the storm. No one was worried until we watched the storm hit Broad Channel. The news showed the streets flooding with ocean water, businesses destroyed, and houses either collapsing or floating away. I could see the tears coming down from Andrew and Ellen’s eyes but they tried to control their emotions as best as possible. Then minutes later all lights and our television shut off completely and the rain was coming down hard. We were prepared for this with extra lights and candles. Since there was nothing to do, we decided to look out the windows for the time being. The street lights were all out and all we could see were the cars coming down the street and with that came the water. The more vehicles that came down the block, the more water that would come with it and flood the streets. Not only that, but the winds were picking up and pieces of the roof tops of houses were falling off and being thrown on cars and other…
