Chapter 4, we learned the various aspects of an audience, when preparing a written or electrical document. How did I consider my audience needs and interests as I developed the presentation about Great Calls marketing strategy? I put myself in their shoes and considered the expectations that a manager of a large cellular company would expect. I recognized their time is valuable and I would need to be quick and direct. I also thought that I would have to put together a presentation that was professional and eye catching and brought valuable information to helping them direct the company to a new solution to increase customer attention. Who was my audience? The people I am presenting to are five managers of Genuine Cellular, who I assume are…
Robert Ebert, columnist for the Chicago Sun, argues the lack of a real plotline in the movie, “Paranormal Activity 2,” makes the movie terrible. What makes people continue to go watch the paranormal activity series is the scare they receive when watching it. Ebert uses the repetition of the word “gotcha” instead of the word scare to lower the reputation of the movie so that you view the movie as childish. Also, Ebert comments on the unnecessary use of stating the time and day. He shows that he did not understand why the directors would state that there was a certain amount of “days before the death of Micah Sloat.” Ebert criticizes the fact by stating “What are we supposed to do…
The two main elements of Benjamin Zanders presentation that stood out the most to me was the exercises about impulses within music and how the audience was able to identify them within a classical piece and then the fact that nobody is tone deaf. The impulse within music and how the audience was able to identify them within a classical piece was significant to me because it was an easy way for those in the audience who had no experience with music to pick up the subtle ideas of how to follow the music. Then the fact nobody was tone deaf was significant to me because I thought that most amateur ears would not be able to follow with a scale. However, after hearing what the audience sang it made me realize how true that statement is and how easy…
We all have read a book at some point in our lifetime. Some books we loved and even reread many times, and others - well let’s just say did not even finish. Have you ever wonder why it is that a certain book caught your attention? Are you curious why you enjoyed the book so much? Have you ever thought why the author the wrote the book or why the book was organized and developed the way it was? In the book, Wild, the author Cheryl Strayed made very interesting rhetorical appeals that both hurt and benefit her effectiveness to relate with the reader. The author very carefully and cautiously chose what and where certain parts go or even what word is the best. Authors use rhetorical choices to effectively connect with their intended audience. In this essay, I will demonstrate Strayed’s intended audience, situation, claim, purpose, and her the rhetorical appeals she made in order to demonstrate what encourage her reader to finish this book in one sitting or throw this book away.…
In conclusion, Sundberg establishes who her audience encompasses and does so rather well, although she states her age giving an idea of who she is speaking to, she also subtly implies those who are in abusive relationships, not just a specific age group and while it seems as if she is speaking to women, in actuality the author is reaching out to anyone who has or will find them in a similar situation. Not only does she establish her audience neatly, but she illustrates her purpose eloquently through a well-crafted and vividly detailed essay allowing for her readers to interpret her words of wisdom and warning. Also, Sundberg uses a number of beautifully used rhetorical strategies which really drive home the impact this essay can have on a reader,…
Halstead uses ethos successfully in his essay, he tells us he is white that he was born from a white family and raised in a white community, and there is no one better to tell what is happening in a white society better than a white individual himself. He explains how he was raised in his family, like saying the word black was only in whispers and they consider it as a taboo word. Halstead along using ethos in his essay he also uses other appeals like pathos and logos throughout his…
Leaders of countries or Princes must make decisions that not many will agree with, but are the best for the populace and he must make them, no matter the cost. Niccolo Machiavelli uses logos, ethos and distinct clear diction to prove the necessity for a ruler to be able to make unpopular decisions, in an excerpt from his book “the Prince” (1532).…
Sand between my toes and enjoying some sun while gathered around with a group of friends is what I call, a definition of a great time. The ad Tampax Pearl from Seventeen magazines sells the product through the use of rhetorical fallacies logos, ethos, and pathos. There are six fallacies, and throughout the magazine they are represented by the text, the women in the white bikini, and the beach: false cause, hasty generalization, non sequitur, and appeal to ignorance, false authority, and bandwagon. In the background are the sounds of waves clashing against one another, the sun beginning to lower, and the scent of a bonfire. The game of limbo used as an entertainment to influence laughter, and competition spread to one another.…

In South Central, Los Angeles, there is a food epidemic taking place among the population. For miles and miles, the only easily attainable food source is fast food; causing the overconsumption of un-nutritious, greasy, and fattening food. This is the problem brought to the public’s attention by speaker Ron Finley in his Ted Talks speech, “A Guerilla Gardener in South Central L.A.” Finley explains how everywhere he looks in his native South Central, all he sees are fast food chains and Dialysis clinics opened due to the lack of nutritious food. Finley views the lack of a healthy food source as a serious problem, and brings up his point; there are miles of vacant lots throughout Los Angeles, all of which could be used for the cultivation of healthy fruits and vegetables to better the urban community’s diet and health.…
Well-known Sci-fi writer, Ray Bradbury, in his novel, Fahrenheit 451, illustrates that relationships reflect who individuals are and who they want to be. Bradbury’s purpose is to promote the idea that a person should have the courage to listen to their own beliefs and thoughts of happiness rather than to blend in with society. He adopts a disoriented and poetic tone in order to appeal to similar feelings and experiences on a non-realistic scale in his young adult readers.…
Sometimes life gets tough and gives us obstacles and challenges just to see how we overcome them. It only takes one mistake for someone’s life to be turned upside down. Watching people go through hardships and life challenges helps us get on the right path and succeed. The book The Other Wes Moore written by Wes Moore himself, is based on real life challenges that two boys ironically with the same name and hometown were faced with and how their decisions on overcoming them lead them to two completely different places. One living free and being able to experience things and the other living unfortunately behind bars. Wes Moore uses the rhetorical appeals ethos, logos, and pathos to engage the readers attention on how two boys with so many similarities can grow up and live two completely opposite lives.…
