Sunset Over The River By Albert Bierstadt
“Sunset over the River” by Albert Bierstadt is an oil painting on canvas. This delightful image of the sunset over the river contains powerful bright colors but also dark calming colors. The bright colors such as the yellow, orange and reddish are used to represent the beautiful sunset that calls the viewer's attention. The image of the sunset becomes more meaningful since its colors are reflected on the river as teal, lime and orange/red colors. At last, the strength of this image relies on the strong contrast between the warm but strong sunset and the dark parts of the painting which would be the tress on both ends of the image. This descriptive element was a purposeful decision of the artist to direct the viewer’s attention towards the sunset.

The Ecuadorian Andes, occupying most of the painting, draw the entire viewer’s attention into the misty valley below, while the rainy forest, showing a scene based on a trip to Jamaica in 1865, fits in the right corner of the painting. But the visual weight of small area of dark green jungles and two travelers offsets large amounts of neutral blue, pink, and gray colors of the sky and rocks. Such a combination of small concentrated dark spots and vast light spaces makes a composition very balanced.…

In this passage from “A Long Walk to Water” by Linda Sue Park, the tone of the author was dramatic. One example of the author using the tone dramatic is on line 2 of the passage. “The sun was relentless and eternal” This is dramatic because the author could have said the sun was hot but they made it so perfectly explained that it is so miserable to be outside. Saying relentless is meaning the sun is consistently burning and the heat is very very strong. Using the word eternal is meaning all day the sun is shining at its brightest.…

In The Rock and the River, by Kekla Magoon, “all it takes for evil to exist is for good people to do nothing” is a prominent theme. An example of this is when Bucky had just been brutally beat and arrested by the police. The police did this in broad daylight in front of everyone including Maxie and Sam. “People on the street began going about their business again. The radio blasted, covering the silence of disbelief, of resignation.” (pg. 68). This quote demonstrates the theme because it shows that if the people watching the violence happen (aka the “good people”) do nothing, then the cop’s racism (aka the evil) would continue existing.…

Some of these archetypes that the painting includes are a powerful vibrant sky, big mountains in the background, large unique trees in foreground, and water with a welcoming feel. I created a darker feel for this painting by leaving the trees without leaves, saturating the sky with dark blues, and making a darker foreground grass with some highlights. Along with the…

The elements of art used in this work balance out the work as a whole. The components such as the canyons, the sky, and the river belong to one another. These natural elements embody nature that form a harmonious whole. The colors used blend together to create a smooth, even layer of color. The earthy tones used are true to life and represent nature. The painting shows a contrast of light and dark colors on the sides of the canyons. The colors start out light and go dark towards the bottom of the canyon. The variety of lines in the work show height and width. The horizontal lines give a feeling of peace and a sense of space. The lines depict sections of the landscape, which recede into space. The bold curved lines of the sky flow directly into the figure and endure to form the body of the individual. Van Gogh uses long, heavy yet equal brushstrokes to express feelings and motion. Motion is the main element in this painting Vertical lines such as the tree and church tower delicately breaks up the composition without withdrawing from the powerful night sky. Van Gogh's use of white and yellow creates a twisting result and draws attention to the sky. And the usage of color to send emotion. Munch also used colors that were contrast between hot and cold colors, contrast of complimentary. By using artless forms, Munch is able to force his viewers to focus on the emotions that the sight and subject secrete rather than simply viewing an exact picture of one particular scene. The cautious use of balance also helps the viewers understand the indirect consequence of The Scream. Munch placed the unpleasant figure in the focal point and attains a sense of balance by inserting two smaller figures who are walking into the scorching sunset in the distance on the left side and by creating a dominant arch in the upper right hand corner. But the focal point created by Van Gogh is the tree-like structure projecting out on the bottom…

The “Landslide” painting is unique in itself but also shares some characteristics with Chiura Obata’s “Sunset Water Tower.” This painting is similar in that it was done with watercolor on paper, has a horizontal orientation and was done in the same time period; 1943. This painting differs however with the use of light, colors, use of line and theme. This painting is of a water tower in the middle of a field, with farms surrounding it and mountains in the background, giving it a variety of landscape. It also has a sunset overtop of the water tower leading into light clouds. Hence the name “Sunset Water Tower.” The use of line is very noticeable in this painting. “Sunset Water Tower” is more acceptable in which the time period it was created. The lines are symmetrical with more use of lighter colors. This work of art follows on a horizontal line in which one can see because of the sunset.…
