Specifically we will concentrate on participants of the supplemental Nutrition Program known as SNAP. The SNAP program is a Supplemental Nutrition Program provided by the state of Georgia. The program provides low income families and individuals with supplemental benefits to assist with nutritional needs. The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance program was founded in 1933 during times of the great depression and the service was part of the Agricultural Adjustment Act. SNAP’s initial purpose was to assist farmers with basic farm commodities in return those farmers sold their goods at discounted prices in order to aid those in need of hunger relief. Today the SNAP program still utilizes the services of farmers, local grocery stores, and community organizations.
