Intended outcomes
Upon completion of this module learners should be able to demonstrate the knowledge, understanding and skills required to help improve own and team practice in schools. It requires demonstration of competence in reflecting on and improving own practice, and supporting the work of the team.
Context
Developing people and nurturing talent is crucial in all organisations, and schools are no exception as they are becoming increasingly complex organisations in response to the varying needs of pupils in the 21st century.
Therefore, it is important for every member of the school workforce to take responsibility for improving their own performance, and that of their immediate team, in order to contribute effectively to achieving the aims of the school.
Although improving practice stems from personal responsibility, maximum impact for the individual, the school and its pupils will not be achieved unless it is placed within an effective performance management system. Individuals working with their line manager can focus on personal development issues that are not only important to the individual but also link strongly with their team’s objectives and the overall aims of the school. In addition, this facilitates the spread of good practice between individuals and teams as part of an effective management and leadership structure. This enables the school to capitalise on the skills, competence and ideas of all staff in the workforce for the benefit of pupils.
