Surgical First Assistant Personal Statement

Recalling back to the time that I witnessed a fall from a cliff, it was the emotions and the rage of wanting to help but not being able to do anything. It was the frustration and heartache that made me struggle internally. All I could do then was listen to the water racing down the stream and the time is ticking away, waiting for help to arrive. I could feel the knotted strings in my heart that I couldn’t figure out how to untangle them. It felt like waiting for a rainbow after a snowstorm; I wanted to help the couple, I wanted them to be happy, I wanted them to continue smiling and laughing their hearts out like before they set out on that climb. But of course I knew, after that fall, life was full of uncertainty, and the journey to recovery
His desperation of aid became my nightmare and a lesson. From then on, I wanted to devote myself to a career to gain the skills and knowledge that can help me save a life. I wanted to be a part of a team who shares the same values as mine, to provide the best care possible to their patients. I just want to become an individual that can help ease the process. Whether it’s to the patient or their loved ones. I want them to feel secure and assure that they have put the life of their loved one in the right hands. By becoming a Surgical First Assistant, I begin the journey with my patients first, the moment they are rolled into the operation room, and I will be the last to send them on their way to recover after their procedure. I want to focus on the idea of making the experience as smooth as possible. Anything can happen in an operation room, and I want to make the process easier. The two shadow opportunity that I observed gave me a chance to test my interest. Even though I was only the observer during the procedure, I wanted to be a part of the care team. I wanted to help prepare the patient for their procedure; I wanted to stand next to the patient and assist the doctor. Even though I was standing in a corner, my heart was eager to
