Where would we be without Strong Leaders ? We may be just fine, or we may be drifting through life, without proper direction, purpose, and an understanding of life, we might make poor decisions simply because we don’t have an example to follow. Another name for them could be an MVP, or Most Valuable Player, they put their singular needs aside, and focus on others as if they were their own, they rally people together for a common cause, this is called teamwork. I mention this because in the book Surviving Antarctica there is an emphasis on this concept of teamwork, and one character exhibits this quality of MVP (or teamwork), more than any others, her name is Polly. In this story one character proves that she is above all others the strongest leader, and MVP candidate in the group. A great reason to why Polly deserves the MVP vote is when she intervened, and explained why the sled dogs would be so important. While on the ship, headed for Antarctica, the five kids have a debate on whether to use snow sledges for the entire trip (126), or to bring the sled dogs with them for the trip.Without Polly’s memories, and her knowledge of Scott’s trip, they would’ve been stuck in a blizzard with a broke snow sledge, and no alternate form of transportation (302). This moment proved that Polly knew what she was talking about, she gave explained, that dogs are the most reliable form of polar exploration, and that if this is a reenactment of Scott’s trip, then the sledges will eventually fail, just as Scott’s had, which was a fatal accident (126).Without Polly’s knowledge of polar exploration, and her informing the kids of why this was important , they would’ve been without a reliable …show more content…
