Suspended Coffee Case Study
The suspended coffee concept is where people bought extra coffee to be claimed by those who cannot afford one (Ain, 2015) or order more coffee than he or she intends to actually consume (Melody, 2013). The extras paid on the extra coffee considered as “suspended”, that “suspended” portion will be giving to customer in need.
The idea of suspended meal come from the suspended coffee that being introduced and practices in Naples, Italy. The tradition began in the working class cafe in Naple, where people paying the price of two coffees but receiving and consuming only one. It’s become so much value for a long-standing community contribution, the company wanted to play part in contribution of society. Now on, Starbuck still continue this program in communicating it through their corporate website. This spirit of suspended coffee is supported by thousands of cafe around the world, the corporation that involved in societal program feels that is so much than the coffee, it give physical comfort, conversation, a smile or even a laugh and a sense of belonging. The objective of the program replicate the suspended coffee program, Restoran Maju Sakhti Curry House located at 19, Jalan Kenari 2, Bandar Puchong Jaya, 47100, Puchong, Indian restaurant involved in suspended meals. This restaurant collaborated with Suspended Meal Malaysia in helping people in need to survive, continuing alive. The paying for meals in advance encourage people to care about others that less fortunate. Certain practices of suspended meal being implement when there is celebration or event around the corner. By that, it will limit the contribution portion to needy, but this restaurant they positively practice every day.
