Every time you hear a new piece of information it builds up the story, and creates it. Even after you have put all the pieces together you are so close to figuring out what is happening but you never find out until the very end which builds the sense of mystery. That creates most of the suspense since you are forming an opinion since you do not get Utterson’s. Utterson does give you a hint of what he thinks when he says “If he be Mr. Hyde”, “I shall be Mr. Seek” (18) which means that he also had suspicions about Mr. Hyde and is going to detect and figure out what he was up to.
Based on reading the book “The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde” and analyzing Stevenson’s way of writing the story he chose Utterson due to his characteristics. These characteristics include his ability to maintain friendships with many different characters, even ones considered crazy by others. Utterson either works for or is friends with most of the characters in the book; this allows us to get to know each of the characters through Utterson.
