Critically evaluate the research that maintains ‘efforts to achieve a sustainable aviation industry will remain elusive’. (In this context ‘elusive’ is taken to represent not possible).
Due date: 29.10.2013
This essay will argue for the research that maintains ‘efforts to achieve a sustainable aviation will remain impossible’
The Aviation industry is very important as it plays a vital role in the growth of the Global economy. Aviation facilitates the growth of international trade, tourism and international investment, and connecting people across continents. It is also responsible for the major direct generator of employment (Aviationbenefitsbeyondborders.org, 2012).
In the other hand, aviation is also a problem when relation to sustainable development because as well as benefiting the economy, it also impacts the environment and the social life of people. This includes noise and air pollution and impact upon human health (Upham, 2003).
The term sustainability as defined by theFreeDictionary.com (2013) is conserving an ecological balance by avoiding depletion of natural resources. Since this is a fundamental commitment to sustainable development, this essay will carefully analyse the efforts that aviation is making and see if aviation is meeting the key rules to be sustainable. There have been some efforts such as the Biofuels to replace the jet fuel which cuts down the amount of carbon emission being exposed in the air. Biofuel as defined by the IGD.com (2013) is a form of fuel derived from biomass, or biological materials. Biofuels differ from fossil fuels in that they are derived from renewable sources. Common sources include crops and waste. In relation to biofuel in this essay will argue about the implications of biofuel in order for the reader to understand why sustainability will remain impossible.
