The Most Dangerous Game/Final Draft
Getting trapped on Ship-Trap Island is an experience unlike any other, whether it’s in the book or the movie. “The Most Dangerous Game” was a short story and was also produced into a movie with many different things from the story. The characters, setting, and plot were different and/or changed from the written short story.
In the movie, the main character, Rainsford, was the only survivor of a ship crash near the island. In the short story, he accidentally fell off of his yacht when he was trying to look for a sound that he had just heard. After he fell, he swam towards the sound and landed on the island. In the movie version, General Zaroff has two servants in his household including Ivan, a character that was also featured in the novel. Once Rainsford arrives at his chateau, he is not the only survivor that has wondered on to Ship-Trap. Unlike the novel, he is the third survivor in the house, along with Eve Trowbridge and her brother Martin.re
Martin disappears on the first night of Rainsford’s stay.
After Martin disappears, Rainsford and Eve are introduced to General
Zaroff’s pastime, and Eve and Rainsford go into the jungle for one night. In the book, Rainsford goes into the jungle by himself, and he has to stay away from the general for three nights. In both the movie and the novel, Rainsford makes it back to the chateau and kills Zaroff after he defeated him, and escapes the island.
In the novel, Rainsford eludes General Zaroff for all three nights, but stays in the jungle. On the very last night, he jumps off the cliff into the ocean and swims back to the chateau to murder Zaroff. But in the movie, Eve and Rainsford go into the swamp and make it back to the castle and murder Zaroff before escaping. Other than that, the setting is basically the same in both versions, but to be honest I like the movie more than the book. It made it more simpler and better. Also the book had more detail than the movie.

How did Sanger Rainsford successfully outsmart General Zaroff in the manhunt? In “The Most Dangerous Game” there are multiple ways Rainsford outsmarts Zaroff but there are three main ways, that are my favorite. The first trap that Rainsford made to get Zaroff is a Malay man catcher. Then Rainsford sets a second trap that is called the Burmese Tiger pit that killed one of Zaroff's best dogs. Finally the last trap is where Rainsford ties his knife to a sapling branch with some vine. The trap didn’t kill Zaroff, it did kill Ivan though. These are my favorite three ways Zaroff was outsmarted by Rainsford.…

One difference that these characters have is how they hunt. Rainsford hunts animals and travels to hunt these prize animals, but on the other hand Zaroff got tired of hunting animals. In place of hunting the animals, Zaroff prefers to hunt humans and this is the “game” that he plays with the people that he traps on his island. Another difference that these characters have is the places that they live. Rainsford lives in New York City, but Zaroff lives on Ship-Trap Island. The last difference that these two characters contain is their personalities and how they treat people. Rainsford is very kind and friendly. He has friends that he likes to travel with and hunt, and he hunts for fun. Zaroff on the other hand is rude. He treated Rainsford and anyone else that ended up on his island kindly and was a good host until it was their time to play the “game.” Then he treats them rudely, and he gives them no reason to like him. He is very demanding and does not let anyone make their own decisions. He forces people to play the “game”, and if they refuse then they are turned over to his servant, Ivan, who tortures…

Throughout the story, Rainsford shows he is very capable. For example, Rainsford meets face to face with General Zaroff for the first time, and Rainsford shows that he is very capable within the game of hunting when Rainsford is forced to survive. As Zaroff says "I have played the fox, now I must play the cat of the fable."(Connell 31) In the quote, Rainsford has presented he has been the one trying to survive with all his strength and he now can finally revolt against General Zaroff the man who is trying to catch Rainsford and win the game. For instance, Rainsford was forced to swim from falling off of his yacht into the ocean all the way to the Island, showing extreme capability.…

Do you ever try to figure out the ending of the story by using clues before you have finished it? The author in the “Most Dangerous Game” uses foreshadowing to keep the reader's attention. The story starts out with Rainsford falling overboard of his ship near Ship-Trap Island. On the island Rainsford finds a house and a man named General Zaroff who lives there. General Zaroff welcomes Rainsford into his house and tells Rainsford how he is a hunter. General Zaroff then invited Rainsford to go on a hunt with him, but Rainsford told him no. After Rainsford says no Zaroff tells him he will become the hunted. In the short story “The Most Dangerous Game” by Richard Connell, the author uses dramatic irony, foreshadowing,…

    The Cay Book Vs Movie

“Like silent, hungry sharks that swim in the darkness of the sea, the German submarines arrived in the middle of the night” The movie never had this line in it. The movie starts on the boat and in the book it starts on the island where this line is. That's why I like the book better than the movie in The Cay by Theodore Taylor. When on the raft for the movie it skips a part of the story which makes Phillip and Timothy closer the part of the book when Phillip falls into the water and gets chased by sharks. The movie has much less detail. As well as this also, it doesn’t say that Philip was scared on the island before, or that by climbing the palm tree Phillip completes Timothy's survival course.…

In the beginning of the film, Rainsford and the general start off on the same foot. They are alike. As the film continues, the general differs in his character. He transitions into a cruel and dark figure and loses the softer side of himself. For Rainsford, he learns to become brave. At first, Rainford is seen, experienced in fear and the struggle to survive. His feelings are more sensitive when he undergoes and internal change of the preys feelings. He learns to develop a stronger sense of humor and becomes more…

    1. Genesis - For this book, I believe that Kingsolver chose to name it ‘Genesis’ because it foreshadows what is going to happen in this section of the novel. In Genesis, this is where God creates this new world. Essentially, this is what the Price family is doing on their expedition in Africa. They’re doing this by bringing all these modern things, and opening their eyes to thing that they’ve never noticed before, for example, when Mr. Price explained how nudity was a bad thing; “But Father skipped over all that and went straight to the dire consequences: ‘The emissaries of the Lord smote the sinners, who had come heedless to the sight of God, heedless in their nakedness.’” (37). Also, in Genesis, God warns Adam and Eve to not eat from the tree, however they ignore his word and do so anyways, which ended in severely bad consequences. The same thing happens to Reverend Price, for when Mama Tataba warned him that the Poisonwood Tree would “bite,” he ignored it, and the next day his arms and hands were covered in a painful rash, and his eye was swollen shut as well. “‘That one, brother, he bite,’ she said, pointing her knuckly hand at a small tree he was wresting from his garden plot. … My father woke up the next morning with a horrible rash on his hands and arms… Even his good right eye was swollen shut,…” (39-40).…

The setting is essential to the plot of Richard Connell’s short story, “The Most Dangerous Game.” For example, the island is completely isolated from the outside world. The island must be hidden from the outside world because the prisoners of General Zaroff will be able to escape and alert the authorities. Also people would be aware of General Zaroff’s new game. Rainsford feels as if “ he was in a picture with a frame of water, and his operations, clearly, must take place within that frame.” (11) Rainsford realizes he is trapped on the island with no way out. Another example of why the setting is so essential, are the large rocks surrounding the island. The large boulders scare the boats away because of their sharp and dangerous appearance.…

The film jumps from scene to scene showing the lives of the police officer (Bruce Willis), the Bishops (Bill Murray and Frances McDormand), the scout camp and Scout Master Ward (Edward Norton Jr.). These scenes never add anything really to the plot but allow the viewer to better understand the characters and the lifestyle of the island. Such as the all-knowing narrator dressed in a red wool coat and green knit hat, who frequently interrupts the story to inform the viewer of an oncoming storm that the residents of the island seem unaware…
