he actual sound—as nearly as human organs could imitate it or human letters record it—may be taken as something like Khlûl’-hloo, with the first syllable pronounced gutturally and very thickly. The u is about like that in full; and the first syllable is not unlike klul in sound, since the h represents the guttural thickness. The second syllable is not very well rendered—the l sound being unrepresented. (to Duane Rimel, 23 July 1934)…

    ABCD Model For Poverty

    • 879 Words
    • 4 Pages

The ABCD model for poverty focuses on the strengths, knowledge, resources and skills of individuals rather than the problem that is at hand. It is a holistic approach that begins with identifying individuals as being made in the image of God. Thereupon, the model uses one’s assets to empower individuals to use them to solve problems rather than others solving problems for them. The ultimate goal of this method is to alleviate poverty and create an environment that is sustainable where people and communities benefit and life is improved. As a missionary in training, I have now spent a few years doing exactly that, training.…

    • 540 Words
    • 3 Pages

The modern standard Latvian alphabet uses 22 unmodified letters of the Latin alphabet (all except Q, W, X and Y). It adds a further eleven letters by modification. The vowel letters A, E, I and U can take a macron to show length, unmodified letters being short. The letters C, S and Z, that in unmodified form are pronounced [ts], [s] and [z] respectively, can be marked with a caron. These marked letters, Č, Š and Ž are pronounced [tʃ], [ʃ] and [ʒ] respectively. The letters Ģ, Ķ, Ļ and Ņ are written with a cedilla or little 'comma' placed below (or above the lowercase g). They are modified (palatalized) versions of G, K, L and N and represent the sounds [ɟ], [c], [ʎ] and [ɲ]. Non-standard varieties of Latvian add extra letters to this standard set.…
