Swimwear Shop Case Study
Any business such as a swimwear shop will be affected negatively by a disaster such as a hurricane and that is why it is important for businesses to have a disaster recovery plan (Fraser et al, 2010). The disaster preparation process for the swimwear shop that is located on Ft. Lauderdale Beach must have details like logistics, how the customers will access the shop and the operation of facilities. A disaster like a hurricane can make it impossible for customers to access the shop even though the swimwear shop might suffer little physical damage in the disaster. Since some of the customers of the swimwear shop are tourists, a disaster like a hurricane can affect their travel for several weeks which can lead to few sales. The process of creating the contingency plan will have to be done in a step by step process with the most important aspects of the business being addressed. It will also be important for all the members of staff to be informed of the contingency plan so that they know what is expected of them in the event of a disaster. In order for the business continuity plans to be successful all the steps that will restore most of the functions that the swimwear shop needs to continue. The decision to include staff members of the swimwear shop into the plan will be determined by how willing and flexible they are since some of the optional arrangements that will be made to facilitate continuity might be different from the normal …show more content…
Since the process of cleaning up after a hurricane can take several weeks or even months to be completed, the alternative facility should have space that will allow displays of the swimwear and any other accessories. The new facility should also have enough space that can be used to store inventory that can last several weeks. The new facility that will be chosen should be located in a place that is far away as possible so that it will also not be affected by the hurricane. It is also important for the new facility to be in a place that is easily accessible by customers (Paton et al, 2017).
Since the swimwear shop will suffer a great impact if its supply chain is interrupted this could lead to a loss of revenue. The second step will be for the management to make plans with the supplier to increase the number of deliveries since it might be impossible for any deliveries to be done since the hurricane an make the roads impassable. This will ensure that the swimwear shop will have enough inventories for its clients even when the supplier is unable to make deliveries. It is also important for the inventory to be protected so that it does not get
