Swing Kids Movie Analysis

Swing kids is the movie directed by Thomas carter in 1993.The movie visualizes the life of people living in Germany during 1939s.Depicting to the life story of 1939s Hamburg, Germany the swing was the main form of recreation that could make young kids forget everything about the dominance of Nazi government. It shows how miserable was the life of the people and how Nazis used to control over the people. By specializing certain characters in the movie, the movie depicts the lightness and darkness in the character of three friends in the movie who are very close to each other. The movie focus on certain character to depict the lightness and darkness in them. Peter, Arvid, and Thomas are the group of small friends .The choices peter makes determine what everyone else thinks about and does in the group. They are tired of seeing the control of Nazi government, and used to go for swing to relax
and forget everything. Peter find himself in trouble when he was caught stealing a radio from the Nazi officer. As a result, he was left with the option of going to camp or joining the regime of the HJ the Hitler youth. Thomas who ran away did not want to see his friend alone so he joined the Hitler youth too. At this moment both were seen in the brighter part and their friendship seem to be even stronger. After the involvement in the Nazi there started the certain twist and turn in them.
They started to develop the impression about the Nazi. Peter was one who was not ready to understand the hateful and unusual propaganda of Nazi whereas Thomas think it is like a family to him. Both of them got into an argument of the behalf of Nazi. He was trying to convince Thomas saying Nazi are traitors and they want to spy on our own family. Once peter realized he was delivering the ashes of “traitors “who opposed the Reich. He changes his mind and started to follow his father belief. He read a letter from his father talking about the ongoing situation with Germany. He used his father propaganda to fight and stand for him .Finally, he suits up and move up to the Bismarck for the swing regardless of thinking about Nazi. The HJs were in the Bismarck to deteriorate the swing where peter and Thomas got into brawl, anger, and love. Thomas wanted peter to run away as he did not want him to go to camp. Peter having a belief “nobody can tear us apart”, stands firm and stand for the free
Germany. The movie was the perfect scene to depict the lightness and darkness in the character. Peter who was against Nazi and did not believe on their propaganda was found to be on bright .He was standing for the free Germany. Peter, although at the end stands with his friend was found to be in darker side.
