SWOT analysis of Mariano

Bakery section

Strengthen:
Mariano fresh market is famous as its fresh and various kinds of products. The bakery section is pretty large compared with other supermarkets. Also, Mariano sells a wide array of different kinds of cookies which can satisfied various customers’ needs. In the bakery section, we figured that every style of cookie has its nice and decent package, for example, the handmade cookies are packaged with the Kraft paper. Another thing should be mentioned is that, although the price of cookies has lower advantages, the size of every cookie is big, so it is very economical for people to purchase the cookies in Mariano.

Weakness:
In the bakery section, for some reasons, the closet which display the cookies is surrounded by many candies. Those candies are colorful and noticeable, which caused that customers not notice those cookies at first glance. Additionally, we found that the nutrition facts attached on each pack of cookies is relatively small and unreadable. Compared with other supermarkets, the price range of the cookies are pretty higher. Some cookies sells only 5 bucks but some of them are over 17 dollars. But from the appearance and package we cannot figured the reason why those cookies are so expensive.

Opportunity:
Cookies in the bakery section are healthier than shelf cookies. So if make some promotion such as hold the healthy cookies festival, it may attract more customers.

Threats:
As mentioned before, Mariano fresh market sells different kinds of products. Not only in the bakery section but also in the frozen foods section we can find many cookies. So, when people have multiple choices, they might not only choose purchase cookies in the bakery section. Also, most private label cookies in the bakery section have very short shelf life compared with those box package cookies in the frozen foods. We believe that those frozen cookies and shelf cookies may become the threats for the cookies in the bakery

In nearly every grocery store I visit, the milk, eggs, and dairy products are located at the back of the store. I never wondered why. I never even thought twice about it. But since I observed this, it makes sense. These items are on most shopping lists, but in order to find them, one must pass through the remainder of the store. Even if you only came for a gallon of milk, there is always the temptation to pick up an item you never intended to by as you work your way to the rear of the store. The bakery’s location is also not random. It is intentionally placed next to the milk and dairy products to lure you with the delicious smell of freshly baked cookies. Because, of course, we all know that chocolate chip cookies go very well with milk.…

    Gary Soto Swot Analysis

Unlike Gary Soto in “Looking for work.” I didn’t look to the television to imitate what my idea of a family was. My family included my mother, my brother and my sister and that was enough for me. I never really focused on not having a dad around; it wasn’t as important as having our mom, who was always there for us. Many people believe that to be a productive family there needs to be two parents in the household. However, I know different. My mother was both parents and did just fine as a single mother raising and supporting three kids all by herself. Mom was the nurse that made me feel better whenever I got sick. She was teacher, because she taught me to read and to write. She cared and loved me but also punished…

In analyzing the current budget the cost to make the cookies far outweigh the profits and the fundraiser would land up putting out more money than what they would take in. The fixed costs alone per session are 30% of the sale price. The amount of cookies in each package appears excessive and could be the reason for the low return. When adding nuts into the cookies it does increase the amount to produce each batch as the nuts are a relatively high dollar amount in large quantities. By leaving the current budget the way it stands there will be a loss of $1,067.50 per session and an overall loss of $5,337.50 over the course of the 5 sales.…

    Marketing Case Study

Almost since the foundation of the Girl Scouts of the United States of America in 1912, cookie sales have played a major role in supporting the Girl Scouts organization at the council and troop levels. By now, cookie sales have grown into a major moneymaking operation, bringing in over $714 million per year. Recent years, however, have seen cookie sales lagging with nearly six years of year-over-year declines of about 1 percent each until the trend reversed last year. The recent economic downturn hasn’t helped matters either. After a restructuring of its operations in 2004, the Girl Scouts have made several changes to the program that they hope will help spark sales and create cost saving opportunities. This year, Girl Scout troops will be selling cookie boxes at $4 even, up from the $3.50 price tag mandated in 2006. Before that, local councils were allowed to set their own prices, resulting in price wars as some troops attempted to undercut each other to increase sales. Portions on some cookie varieties have been reduced by one ounce per box, and other cookie varieties will use plastic packaging instead of more expensive cardboard. The Girl Scouts will also be asking certain troops to reduce their cookie lineups to just six varieties. The six top-selling cookies—Thin Mints, Do-si-dos, Trefoils, Samoas, Lemon Chalet Cremes, and Tagalongs—account for about 77 percent of cookie sales, and many attempts to create cookies geared toward specific markets have not fared well in recent years. The Dulce de Leche cookies, based on classic Latin American treats, were designed to appeal to Hispanic markets as part of the Girl Scouts’ broader diversity initiatives. However, sales figures did not seem to indicate any particular market preference for that variety. A “diabetic-friendly” sugarfree chocolate-chip variety also failed to generate a significant sales boost. While funds from cookie…
