During that time we lived in a studio in my grandpas house. The school i attended at the time was Dwight eisenhower elementary. Everyone thought i was a genius because i got 4 diplomas at the trimester awards while everyone got two or one. What i remember the most from living with my grandpa was every weekend he used to knock at our door at 7 am just to come talk to us. It was annoying because he wouldn't stop until we opened the door. He was always so eager to spend time with his grandkid. It was nice being the only child, but then came 2006 and i was no longer the queen of the house. Before i knew it in 2008 we had another package included into my family. Our family was growing rapidly so my parents decided to move out into a much bigger house, which is where i live today. I moved to a new school called carrillo ranch elementary. Everything was pretty smooth, no worries, no stress, and easy going such as in the beginning of a roller…

This was supposed to be where my dad was going to retire and where he said we were going to stay forever, this meant no more changing schools and no more starting over, I was ecstatic. My best friend in Virginia was a girl named Amanda who I referred to as Manda Panda. She had long, straight brown hair. Her body was built like a boy’s, her shoulders wide, her torso long. Our minds were identical, we could finish each others sentences, knew what each other was thinking without even speaking and very frequently would come home from shopping with our parents with the same items. We were your typical giggly, boy crazy girls. She was my favorite person in the world. When I moved to Virginia it was around the end of my fifth grade year, Amanda and I were extremely lucky to be in most of the same classes and we were inseparable in and out of school. My dad eventually retired after almost five years of us living in Virginia however, he decided that he wanted to move one more time. I was devastated. My parents promised me we wouldn’t move anymore, having to continually start over was rough for me. Being the new kid and the awkwardness of not knowing anyone, learning a new school and leaving behind your friends was supposed to be over. I became…

All I remember was how it looked like a ghost town. There were hardly any cars on the road and nothing looked open.. This was not what I was used to. We checked into our room at the Holiday Inn, our new house for a little over a month while finding a house to buy, and I shortly fell asleep, being exhausted from our 12 hour journey. Me, my mom, stepdad, sister, and my cat were all crammed into a little, one room, hotel with two beds and one bathroom, I was miserable. For about a week and a half, a played hookie and helped my mom house hunt. Eventually, she decided I had been out of school long enough. That next morning, my mom pulled me into Guntersville Middle School. I was worried because I was ridiculously shy and figured I would have an extremely hard time making friends, but oh was I wrong. Before homeroom was over everyone in the sixth grade class knew there was a ‘new girl from Texas’. That’s when I met Charlie Conner and Anna…
Born on March 6th, 1999 music was my language and the first song I knew was Virtual Insanity by Jamiroquai. I always sang, no moment left my soul without being composed into some rhythm. I was shy when I was younger, but my first opportunity to sing in front of a crowd was in 3rd grade. In music class, we prepared for a concert and there were two solos available. I sat alongside all of the other girls, eagerly excited and hopeful that I would be chosen to sing. The clock ticked, and ticked and finally the music…
That was the day that my grandpa passed away. Every single part of that date is engrained in my memory. My parents had driven up to Wisconsin, and my older sister Lauren drove home for college to stay with me. It wasn’t out of the normal for my parents to quickly leave, so I didn’t think much of it. I remember going to hang out with Tatum, my best friend of the time. It was a nice day outside, so of course we were outside playing on the trampoline and doing all our weird routines like we always did. Her family, who was like a second family to me, decided to go out to eat so they brought me along. We went to La Charitas. I remember how Mrs. Teeple pulled out a funny card game for us to play, and I remember Tatum cutting out faces in her tortilla, making us all laugh. When we got back to the house we saw that my sister called, so I said bye to the Teeples and walked one minute down the road to my house. Lauren, who is one of the most emotional in the family, was left with the task of telling me that my grandpa had passed away. I had just grabbed a snack of chocolate cheerios as she started to tell me the news. I didn’t know how to react, so I ran into the basement directly to the furthest corner I could find. Lauren tried talking to me, but I wanted to be by myself. One of the hardest things I have ever done was talking to my dad on the phone after finding out. He called to tell me the plans, that he was coming home to get us, and…
It all started with this very simple question, “Do you want to move to Florida?” When my mom had asked that, we had just came back from our spring break vacation in Florida. We lived in Kentucky and my siblings and I went to St. Albert, I was in fifth grade. Of course when my mom said that my whole family thought it was a joke, so we all had said sure to the idea. About a week later, I forgot about the question, so after school one day my parents had told me and my siblings they had a surprise for us. Little did I know that we were actually moving to Florida.…
Some of my favorite childhood memories are connected through songs I loved as a kid. The lyrics “Like baby, baby, baby, oh” from Justin Bieber’s song “Baby” always bring me back to when me and my friend, Hailey, used this song for our first talent show dance. I still remember the countless times we rehearsed the dance, and how nervous we were to perform our dance in front…
As I grew, I became who I am now, with great memories of my friends and family, and even some bad ones. I think my best memory was actually last year. When I was in 6th grade I started to like this band, they gradually got more…
I know music. There is not a single important memory I have that is not tied to a song, a genre, or an instrument. I met my first best friend through EDM and for my fifteenth birthday I received my first record player. Long, mundane car rides with my dad remind me of classic rock on FM radio, and the memories of my little sister loving pop music since she was old enough to crawl will forever have a special place in my heart.…
I became accustomed to tear stained pillows, unable to comfortably express myself with people. Music became my escape, from time and surrounds. All I needed was a pair of earbuds and I’d be millions of miles away from anything and everything. I became a responsible escapist, keeping my responsibilities and keeping my obligations met. Music was my breath of fresh air, a mostly introspective way of expressing myself to myself. My music tastes expanded, becoming more and more diversified to handle a growing need of relatable music. Melancholy, a virus that seems to plague teenagers with frequent intensity and Brian Immanuel washed it. As loneliness took stride with the colorful voice of Daniel Caesar, Kehlani was by my side to convince me to embarrass myself for who I am. And that’s what Music is there for, the musicians transform into as teachers, guardians, friends, enemies, and so on through their lyrics to encourage us for self improvement. To be the best version of ourselves that we can…
