Yet, as time passed "The rotten apple in his back and the inflamed surrounding area." (89) Gregor began to realize that he was no longer part of this family and as the apple in his back so did the to be rotten so did the relationship he began to have.
Lastly, Gregor's shut door is also a symbol. When the story began Gregors door was kept shut and locked by will. When he became a bug he thinks "Now, quite apart from the fact that the doors were locked should he really call out for help?" (12) Gregor kept his family out by shutting his door and keeping it locked this was his way of self isolation. Yet, as Gregor transforms into a bug he soon feels the door as developing a sense of loneliness and isolation from his family rather than self inflicted.
In conclusion, Kafka used many symbols to help develop is story such as the woman in the picture who provided Gregor with a sense of humanity and the furniture which was stripped from him and denying him his human aspects. Also, the apple which brought Gregor closer to his family but as it rotted so did their relationship. Finally, his door is Gregors way of isolating himself from his family in the beginning but soon becomes the Samsa's way of keeping what they used to know as Gregor
