The setting of the story helps ways create the message of the many ways. In the last chapter of this memoir by Elie Wiesel a rabbi left his father behind. He had love for his father, however, at that moment he had to let him go. A little boy was hanged. Many people had love for the little boy, however, they would be killed if they would have stood up for him in that time and place and all they wanted to do was was to survive. When the people saw the boy hanging it symbolized that their dead faith. The boy death on the gallows symbolized the love that they had for their faith.
