Symbols In Maus II By Art Spiegelman

Maus II, a book by Art Spiegelman about him and his father talking about his life in the concentration camps during the Holocaust. His father had a great story about how he survived and what he did to stay on peoples “good sides”.There are many symbols in the story including the different animals that each mean something. There are the dogs, the cats, the mice, and the pigs. Then there is the relationship between Artie and his father, Vladek. Vladek was a Holocaust survivor, looping his way around everyone and the dangers. Vladek also had trouble with marriage and his life. This story describes a young man in the Holocaust and his life after the troubling time. In the story Maus II there are different animals which may confuse you at first.
