Synovial Joint Essay
A synovial joint also known as diarthrosis, joins bones with a fibrous joint capsule. It is continuous with the periosteum of the joined bones, constitutes the outer boundary of a synovial cavity, and surrounds the bone articular capsule. The articular capsule keeps the bones together structurally, and an inner layer, the synovial membrane, which seals the synovial fluid. Synovial cavity all diarthroses have the characteristic spaces between the bones that is filled with synovial fluid. Joint capsule the fibrous capsule surrounds the diarthrosis and unites the articulating bones. The joint capsule consists of two layers. The outer fibrous membrane that contains ligaments and the inner synovial membrane that secretes the lubricating, shock absorbing, …show more content…

The blood supply of synovial joint is derived from the arteries sharing in the anastomosis around the joint.
There are six types of synovial joints. Gilding joints, such as carpals of the wrist, these joints allow only gliding or sliding movements. Hinge joints, act as a door hinge does, allowing flexion and extension in just one plane. Pivot joints one bone rotates about another. Condyloid joints two bones fit together with an odd shape these joints allow flexion, extension, abduction, and adduction movements. Saddle joints, which resemble a saddle, permits the same movement as the condyloid joints, but allow greater movement. Ball and socket joints allow all movement except gliding. Compound joints modified hinge joints condylar joints (condyles of the femur join with condyles of tibia) and saddle joint (lower end of femur joins with patella.)     Synovial joints are comprised of six main properties: Articular cartilage, Joint cavity, articular capsule, Synovial fluid, reinforcing ligaments, and Nerves and blood vessels. The primary function of articular cartilage is to cushion the joint which in turn prevents damage to the bones. Joint Cavity is the space in-between the bones that contains a small amount of synovial fluid. The articular capsule is made up of dense irregular tissue, which strengthens the joint as well as preventing the bones from pulling apart. Synovial fluid is found in all the free spaces within the joint capsule. The fluid is made up mostly of blood flowing through the capillaries of the synovial membrane. Synovial fluid provides cartilage with a slippery surface which helps to reduce friction between cartilages. Reinforcing ligaments are comprised of Capsular ligaments, which are the thickened parts of the fibrous layer. Sensory nerves are abundant in synovial joints. Sensing pain and monitoring joint position are some of the functions of sensory nerves. One of the other joints used on the rock wall is the temporomandibular joint otherwise known as the jaw joint. The jaw joint accounts for the hinge like movement of the mandible. To parts of the jaw joint collaborate to move the jaw. The first part the inferior compartment permits the condyler process of the mandible to rotate which causes the opening and closing of the mouth. The second part the superior compartment lets the condylar process move forward where it rests against the articular tubercle when the mouth opens wide.
