“Sixteen-point nine percent of children and teens are obese” (Huffington Post). Childhood obesity is becoming a greater problem in today’s society because of the readily availability of foods, appealing commercials, and the children themselves. I think that food industries are out to make money without offering healthier alternatives or taking an interest on how it affects the children. With more sugary foods being developed, kids are more prone to wanting to have that food in their homes. Food companies like to target children with commercials advertising sugary foods with using bright colors and catchy songs because they are more easily persuaded to these fatty, sugary foods. In today’s society, it is not uncommon to see more children becoming obese, but who is the one to blame for it? I believe that the food industries are more at fault because they don’t warn us about how much sugar content is in their products. The industries market commercials that make the food look yummy and colorful which is why children become more drawn to these foods. Although children ages one to ten don’t necessarily know what’s good for them and what’s bad, industries should be offering healthier alternatives with less sugar content and substitute them …show more content…
Food companies can promote their foods, but it’s just food on a commercial or billboard until the parent/child purchases the food. According to an online article titled “How to Keep Santa From Making Our Kids Fat: Three Ways to Reduce Childhood Obesity”, “It is really crucial to help our children avoid gaining too much weight. Because once people become obese, myriad biologic factors conspire against their efforts to lose weight.” Children don’t necessarily know what’s bad for them, but parents do know, and if they just sit back and let their child eat sugary, fatty foods all day, then they are more to blame than the company
