In this Lab there were four different stations to experiment with, my partner and I started with grabbing our goggles, and then we started with station 4, solubility, we had add a small amount of 4 different liquids (Hexane, Ethanol, Water, or Vegetable oil) to a well, then we had add a solid (Salt,Sugar, or Lard) to each of the 4…
Aspect 1: Our class conducted 3 experiments to demonstrate, investigate and experimentally verify the Atomic Laws of Dalton's Atomic Theory. In our first experiment, we measured the mass of 2 objects and then added them and measured the combined mass. We did this to learn about the Conservation of Mass. In our second experiment, we took 2 packages of Oreos (regular/double stuf). We weighed the mass to determine the ratio. We did this to model the Law of Multiple Proportions. In our final lab, we took a sample of potassium chlorate and heated it in a crucible to drive off the oxygen. We did this to measure and find the amount of oxygen that was in it. This was to verify the Law of Definite Composition.…
Years ago, the college experience applied only to recent high school graduates and meant spending hour after hour in a crowded lecture. Today, this is only one of the possible snapshots of a college student. The ideas in this article are perfect for students from all backgrounds and in all majors. Read on for insight and inspiration.…
Write a paragraph (minimum five college-level sentences) below that summarizes what was accomplished in this lab, what you learned by performing it, how it relates to this week’s TCO’s and other course material; and just as important, how you feel it will benefit you in your academic and…
There is no doubt that the process of earning a college degree is a daunting prospect for many. However, by conducting…
5. After each lab, summarize what you learned in a short paragraph – minimum three college-level and well-written sentences. Don’t just identify the steps that you performed (we already know that), give it some thought. In your summary, include what you accomplished in the lab, what you learned from performing it, how it relates to this week’s TCO’s and course material; and just as important, how you feel it will benefit you in your academic and professional career.…
4. To demonstrate knowlegdge of the major issues and problems facing modern science, including issuses that touch upon ethics, values, and public policies. 5. To demonstrate knowledge of the interdependence of science and technology and their influence on, and contribution to, modern culture. CLASSROOM POLICIES: Only chemistry questions will be addressed in class. All other questions about the course or grading will be addressed individually during office hours. A schedule showing due dates for assignments and exams will be available on Blackboard. Attendence: Attendance may be taken periodically. Professors will have the option of dropping a student after three…
Borax is a widely known as a laundry detergent and can be used in many ways like a water softener, disinfectant, mouthwash and so many other numerous things i can't even count. The reason for this in this experiment is it reacts with the glue to make slime, what it does it squishes the molecules in the glue to make polymers which make the slime .it depends on how much borax goes in the more there is the more solid it becomes.…
course usually taken during the first college year. For some students, this course enables them to undertake, in their first year, second-year work in the chemistry sequence at their institution or to register in courses in other fields where general chemistry is a prerequisite. For other students, the AP Chemistry course fulfills the laboratory science requirement and frees time for other courses. AP Chemistry should meet the objectives of a good college general chemistry course. Students in such a course should attain a depth of understanding of fundamentals and a reasonable competence in dealing with chemical problems. The course should contribute to the development of the students’ abilities to think clearly and to express their ideas, orally and in writing, with clarity and logic.…
• Laboratory Reports - Students may be asked to write a lab report for a science class, which falls into the Natural Sciences goal area of the MnTC. The lab report can be evaluated in a systematic way to determine whether a student has met the desired learning goals for that area.…
Sophmore Chase Cabe exclaimed in a rather elated voice,” This was definitely the best lab that we have done in his class so far. I like mixing up the elements into compounds and seeing how they react to each other. The result turned out looking great.” As the lab drew to a close, both Mr. Bell and his students returned to their desks with the impression that they were both satisfied with what they had done during the duration of the lab.…
Just as the AP course positively impacted me, with the assistance of the Woodford R. Porter Scholarship, I know I can have the same impact on the University of Louisville community. At the University of Louisville, I hope to earn my degree in chemical engineering. I do understand that this degree requires a lot of knowledge about mathematics. Because I was able to overcome difficult academic situations in high schools, I know I am better prepared to deal with these challenges in college. Furthermore, my experiences of struggling in my AP courses have helped me become more sympathetic to my peers. If I see one of my peers struggling, I will provide assistance to them because I know how hard it is to ask for help. By working with my peers, we can ultimately develop a friendship inside and outside the classroom. By developing these relationships, we can learn from one another. While I cannot change my peers’ perspectives about certain issues, I can introduce them to a new perspective, my perspective. By introducing my peers to my perspective, I have helped them become more self-aware as they can do the same for me. In essence, by attending the University of Louisville, I know I can uphold the University’s mission by improving my peers’ lives by sharing my own lived experiences in classrooms. By sharing my narrative and experiences, I know I will create a more diverse…
In the dehydration of cyclohexanol, Montmorillonite K10 clay was used as an acid catalyst, which promoted dehydration. Cyclohexanol was refluxed in the presence of the catalyst. During distillation the cyclohexene product distilled from the reaction mixture along with water, and was dried with MgSO4.…
Honors Chemistry was always a pleasantly productive period. A typical class block entailed only a lesson and worksheet; for example, I would speed through a stoichiometry worksheet, ensure that I understood limiting reagents, and find myself with half of the period to occupy. Some days I would finish homework for other classes, while other days I would browse scientific journals on my phone. Occasionally I would use this time to “do math,” which, for someone without much of a background in the subject, meant toying with a calculator and graph paper until the bell rang.…
