Aleppo: City of Beauty and War Aleppo once was a place of beauty and importance; over the last century how has it changed? From a once beloved city to a war zone. Aleppo is and was a very important economic trade center of the middle east, and is now a battleground for the Syrian Civil War.
Aleppo is a dry city; in Southwestern Asia. It is North of the Arabian Peninsula. Aleppo has an annual precipitation of 13 inches a year. The average temperature of the city is 63.1°F. The combination of the moderate temperature and low amounts of rainfall cause the city to be dry.(Climates) The city is 75 miles away from the mediterranean sea. Aleppo is mostly surrounded by farming lands to the East and West. The main crop they farm is olive and pistachio trees. Aleppo has historically had many amazing landmarks. The Syrian Civil War has been going since 2011-present day. The War is coming to a near end; as the Syrian army is coming close to ISIS’s last stronghold in Aleppo. The city is in mostly ruins since Russia has sent many bombing drones. Most of the civilians have been evacuated except; for the people who chose to stay. There have been 470,000 casualties since the war started in 2011. As the war is coming to an end; the people who are still in Syria are trying to return to their normal lives. Last week they had the first soccer game since the war started in

In the old days Aleppo was the largest City in Syria. It also used to be the Capital of Syria. Aleppo used to be a great walled city with amazing Mosques. People from Aleppo have the ethnicity of Syrian. People don’t speak only one language in Aleppo; they speak different forms of Arabic. Aleppo has been around since the 2nd millennium B.C. Aleppo has outstanding Universal value. It was ruled by many different groups of people like the Hittites, Assyrians, Akkadians, Greeks, Romans, Umayyads, Ayyubids, Mamluks, and Ottomans.(BBC)
Aleppo has gone through many ups and downs as a city. In the recent times there has been great wars. In the olden days the city used to be a great place with high value. Now It still has high value; but for a different cost the cost of life. When the war ends Aleppo could rise back to what it used to be. Aleppo will have to go through years of rebuilding after the years of war it has gone through.
