Systolic Blood Pressure
Q 1) what do you understand by the term systolic blood pressure?
Systolic blood pressure is the pressure exerted against artery walls created when the heart contracts to push oxygenated blood throughout the body. As blood pressure is represented by 2 numbers, systolic blood pressure is the upper number. A normal systolic blood pressure is 120 or below although it largely depends on the physical properties and capabilities of the individual.
Q 2) what do you understand by the term diastolic blood pressure?
Diastolic blood pressure indicates the pressure exerted against artery walls whilst the heart is resting between each beat. It takes its name by the diastole phase where the heart muscle relax and the chambers fill up with blood. As blood

Blood pressure is the force exerted by blood against a unit area of the blood vessel walls (Marieb, Hoehn 2013), and is measured in millimeters of mercury (mm Hg) with two different pressures, the systolic, which is the number on top, and the diastolic, the number on the bottom. The systolic pressure represents the amount of force being excreted during the peak of ventricular contraction, also the time when blood in being pumped into the arteries (Nelson, 2009). The diastolic pressure is the amount of pressure when the ventricles are relaxed (Nelson, 2009) and is always lower than the systolic pressure. Most physicians consider a blood pressure of 120/80 normal, but this is dependent on several factors, like overall health, medical problems, diet, age, and prescribed medications.…

Blood pressure is the amount of force that blood pushes against the inside walls of blood vessels as it passes through. This pressure is initially produced by the contracting heart and is necessary to push blood along to all organs in the body. Doctors can take a blood pressure by using a sphygmomanometer (blood pressure cuff). The idea behind this instrument is that the…

Blood pressure readings are measured in millimeters of mercury. An instrument called a sphygomanometer is used to measure your systolic and diastolic pressure. Written in the form of a fraction, the top number is the systolic pressure, and the bottom is the diastolic pressure. The systolic pressure is measuring the amount of pressure that the blood exerts on the arteries and vessels while the heart is beating. The diastolic pressure is a measurement that determines the amount of pressure in your arteries between heartbeats while your heart is relaxed.…

Blood pressure is the measurement of the force that is applied to the walls of the arteries as the heart pumps blood throughout the body. Blood pressure is normally measured with a blood pressure monitor, and is measured as a two number ratio. The top number is the systolic number, it is the higher of the two numbers and it measures the pressure in the arteries when the heart contracts. The number on the bottom of the ratio is the diastolic number, this measures the pressure in the arteries between heartbeats when the heart is resting and refilling with blood. Normal blood pressure is when the systolic number is less than or equal to 120 and the diastolic number is less than or equal to 80.…
