Course Description (course objectives, content & teaching approach):
This course (i) provides you with a framework for business analysis and valuation using financial statement data and accounting analysis; and (ii) shows you how to apply the skills of financial accounting analysis to a variety of business decisions, such as investments, sell-side valuation, buy-side valuation, and forensic accounting, etc. The course assumes that you have a basic working knowledge of accounting, finance, economics and business strategy. Taking the course of introduction to accounting prior to taking this class is almost a must. The course involves in class case analysis. You are responsible for preparing for all cases in advance of the class sessions, including familiarizing yourself with the relevant accounting issues. I will assume proficiency in all aspects of accounting covered in your introductory accounting class.
