Over the past three decades, the U.S. food retailing industry has experienced significant changes. The most significant change has been in the trends and preferences of its customers, as customer loyalty has dwindled significantly and customers have focused their decision making on price almost exclusively. This is not an impermanent movement and it has created new segments of retailers within the food retailing industry. Over the past two decades, three new segments have either begun or grown considerably. These industries are supercenter stores (WalMart and Target), warehouse clubs (BJs and Costco) and dollar/limited selection stores (Family Dollar and Trader Joe’s), which is the most recent growth segment. These segments have quickly moved to take a significant market share from their more established grocery store counterparts. Each segment offers different aspects that appeal to customers, but the one characteristic that is common with…

Our Objective We aim to bring Forever 21, a popular United States clothing company to Taiwan Executive Summary Forever 21 is a popular clothing retailer. There are several different brands within the company, each with its own target market In opening a store in Taiwan, we are attempting to appeal to a similar target market of college educated females between the ages of 18-34 Our goal is to start with a .5% market share which we will continue to grow with profits between $50,000-75,000, with around 10 thousand new customers Forever 21 traditionally relies on a print campaign in large cities as well as heavy online campaigns. A similar marketing plan will be used in Taiwan with adaptations to fit Taiwanese preferences An online survey will be sent out to determine interest in a Forever 21 retail outlet. Open a retail outlet in Taipei with clothing being imported directly from suppliers, many of which are located in Asia. Environmental analysis Taiwan Apparel Market Analysis Taiwan has limited natural resources. It is not the production country of cotton, yarn and petroleum. However, the development of the textile industry in Taiwan is unusually prosperous, as the main product items are cotton yarn, fiber and garment. The domestic apparel retail development has changed…
Compared with China's estimated 2015 GDP growth rate of 6.9%, Taiwan is faced with a different growth crisis, with the estimated GDP growth rate less than 1%, far worse than previously expected. Seeing the news media minimize this impending disaster, all while make such a big deal out of having extreme amounts of foreign exchange reserves truly saddens me, as we are not as wealthy as the government would like us to think. Whenever I read news concerning the economy, I have questions regarding Taiwan's future. We used to fare much better; what exactly happened to us? What are the real problems? Are the economic policies having any effect? Last, but not least, "What can I do to improve Taiwan's…
Taiwan opposition leader James Soong urged the island's independence-leaning leaders to take advantage of his "bridge-building" trip to mainland China to seek cross-strait peace.…
However, the situation slightly changed in recent years. The economic crisis in 2008 brought a lot of business changes especially in customer behavior within the supermarket around the world. The financial event has strongly motivated a certain amount of middle classes who want to purchase inexpensive products in…
Dr. Ryan Fortenberry presented about one of the greatest mysteries in spectroscopy, which involved these diffuse interstellar bands spectra of space. No one has been able to conclusively determine these specific bands, but after thought, Fortenberry speculated that these could potentially be absorption bands of anions due to various other observations from previous reports about these findings. Fortenberry ran calculations using the coupled-cluster theory to get the most accurate results, and it has been determined that several small anions, such as CH2CN-, had similar excitation energies compared to that experimental benchmark. However, several other ground state excitation energies, and that there was a correlation with silicon because there were some fairly accurate CCSD calculations that came out of molecules that contained silicon in there. Using these calculations, one can then use the spectra that generated with these calculations, and compare it with the interstellar bands to determine if there really are anions in space.…
The island of Taiwan is located 120 kilometers off southeastern coast of Mainland China. Its geographical area coverage is bout 13,823 square miles. It is surrounded by the East China Sea on its north, South China Sea to southeast and Philippine Sea to the east. The shape of the island is similar to a sweet potato, therefore they sometimes refers themselves as “Children of the Sweet Potato”…

Rapid growth of the Thai economy in the 1990s led to dramatic changes in food retailing. The traditional food-distribution system—hundreds of thousands of fresh markets that sell fruits, vegetables, meat, and fish, along with small mom-and-pop food stores that distribute dry goods—is giving way to modern supermarkets, hypermarkets, and convenience stores, all being developed at an incredible pace. This paper examines the changing Thai food-retailing sector and reports the findings of a consumermarket-basket price comparison by type of retail outlet in various regions of the country. Thailand’s Food-Retailing Sector The retail food market in Thailand can be divided into four major sub-sectors: supermarkets, hypermarkets, convenience store chains, and traditional or fresh markets. Despite the rapid growth of non-traditional retail formats during the 1996–2000 period, as Table 1 shows (this growth occurred during a time of economic downturn and upheaval), traditional markets still accounted for over 80% of food retail trade in 2000. For this reason, retail chains are optimistic about the prospects for future growth by attracting more people into store formats other than the traditional markets. It is estimated that hypermarkets and convenience store numbers will grow by 400 percent during the 2000-2010 period, while supermarkets will increase by 200 percent (Jitpleecheep 2000). Supermarkets In Thailand, supermarkets for the most part have developed in department stores (multi-level shopping…
India’s traditionally strong links with Iran, and its increasingly robust relationship with the US, have put the India-Iran relationship firmly in the spotlight. India is a major importer of Iranian oil – the second largest after China – and has been able to get a US waiver on sanctions against Iran, in exchange for a reduction in Iranian oil imports.…
Taiwan issue is a very controversial and sensitive topic in China and Taiwan. It refers to an argument of the issue of Taiwan independence between China and Taiwan's governments. In China's point of view, Taiwan is definitely a part of China because historically China had been possessed Taiwan for a very long time. However, most Taiwanese do not agree with that Taiwan is a part of China, and it even has the right to join the United Nations. I personally tend to believe China government's position because there is no doubt that Taiwan is a part of China even though Taiwan has been controlled by Kuomintang since they lost the civil war in 1949. Also, it is really hard to achieve that "One China" principle because they have differences in everything. For example, China mainland is running communism and Taiwan is running capitalism, there is only one party allowed in China and Taiwan has several parties. More importantly, everything in China is controlled by the government, but Taiwan emphasizes democracy, everyone has the right to vote. In my opinion, there are several reasons such as the peace, the conflict and the culture why I support China keeps putting effort in "One country, two systems" policy.…
Hong Kong is frequently described as a place where "East meets West", reflecting the culture's mix of the territory's Chinese roots with influences from its time as a British colony. Hong Kong balances a modernised way of life with traditional Chinese practices. Concepts like feng shui are taken very seriously, with expensive construction projects often hiring expert consultants, and are often believed to make or break a business. Other objects like Ba gua mirrors are still regularly used to deflect evil spirits, and buildings often lack any floor number that has a 4 in it, due to its similarity to the word for "die" in Cantonese. The fusion of east and west also characterises Hong Kong's cuisine, where dim sum, hot pot, and fast food restaurants coexist with haute cuisine.…
