Global warming has caused the earth to get hotter, drastic change in weather patterns, increased sea levels, the death of a specific species of plant and animals whilst at the same time encouraging the overpopulation of another. The effect is a rippling one where everything in the food chain is suffering. Man has tried to combat global warming by trying to predict when or where the next natural disasters (hurricanes, storms, tsunamis, floods, droughts and others) will occur. But though at times we know and we try to put measures in place, we are still unaware of the magnitude of effect it would have on us and the environment, as well as, our predictive machines sometimes fail to give early…

“An Inconvenient Truth” directed by Davis Guggenheim is a documentary that Al Gore stars in for the public purpose of increasing awareness about climate change due to greenhouse gases, but for the indirect political purpose of increasing Gore’s popularity amongst the educated masses. Gore’s direct audience would be the liberal thinkers and people concerned about their environment or the future of their family. He asserts that global warming is severely impacting the environment and changes need to be implemented in people’s everyday lives to reduce the negative side effects of the human race’s actions. Gore’s tactics are compelling and highly effective to the point that the documentary received many reviews, both negative and positive, along with millions of dollars in the box office.…

Global climate change has been a subject of much discussion for some time now. The earth has naturally gone through heating and cooling phases in its lifetime. Most scientists agree that these changes aren’t solely the product of humans, but that the time required for natural climate change has been decreased due to humans. This has led to new problems for the earth and all of its inhabitants. According to research the earth is warming at an average of 1.2-1.4° F every 100 years (epa.gov).…

In John Steven’s article he writes, “flooding already happened in Louisiana, but climate change has made it more likely to happen, and has made it more likely that the flooding will be more destructive.” Many places have regular flooding which are already devastating, but due to climate change these floods are becoming more common and at the moment are devastating but soon will be catastrophic. Justin Worland writer from Time magazine illustrates “Sciences report from earlier this year determined that climate science has advanced far enough that researchers can now accurately determine how global warming affects extreme temperature events, as well as drought and extreme rainfall.” Due to climate change the weather is not only horrible but is getting worse due to the world becoming warmer, and is causing extreme weather. Justin Worland also illustrates “Climate change increases the intensity of precipitation because warm weather leads more water to evaporate forming wetter clouds.”…

Abstract—by its spectacular special effects, the movie The Day after tomorrow shook the World and made people sensitive to Global Warming phenomenon. Despite the undeniable quality of the film, we have to figure out what is plausible and what is definitely not. To do so, I will first describe what kind of elements maintain our specific atmosphere, then I will present how scientists explain1 the Global Warming phenomenon, its causes and its forecasts. It will be followed by a comparison between accumulated scientific…

Violence has been one of the main events of humanity's long history. Humanity has fought over food, territory, drought, politics and religion. Civilization across history have been torn apart because of conflict. The Ancient Roman civilization was destroyed because of conflict in the political world of Rome and the war they were facing against the Barbarians. Both Things Fall Apart and "The Second Coming" suggest that conflict can bring on an end of an era in a society.…

The first film, The Day After Tomorrow, is a 2004 science fiction disaster film written, directed, and produced by disaster film alumni Roland Emmerich. Emmerich specializes in disaster movies but also specializes in sensationalism. “The plot depicts the worst case scenario of the effects of global warming including extreme weather and the beginning of a new ice age. The protagonist is Jack played by Dennis Quaid who studies paleoclimatology in Antarctica. Jack witnesses ice shelves breaking and…

So the greenhouse effect is one part of global warming and it makes the South Pole ice melt. And we know that ocean current may change the climate. Now we have to connect two things and make it relate to the movie. A large volume of fresh water goes into the sea and dilutes the salt water concentration of the sea because of the melting of the icebergs. So the melting water affects the ocean current and destroys the balance of the heat on the surface. Because the heat balance doesn’t exist anymore, the climate changes rapidly and causes an ice age. This is what the movie…

In "The Day After Tomorrow" a climatologist's warning of the possibility of massive cataclysmic climate changes caused by global warming go unheeded. His predictions of the consequences of such actions just so happen to occur sooner than anyone had ever expected. This movie served as the ultimate example what could happen if as a world community we do not clean up our acts. Continued consumption of nonrenewable resources, increased carbon dioxide emissions and further depletion of the Ozone layer could though most likely not on the scale illustrated occur in one form or another. The moral of this film is summed up by Dennis Quaid's character in the last scene when he mutters his last few lines stating that hopefully humanity can learn from it's mistakes.…

One of the biggest, but most underrated problems we face in our world today is global warming, or as some call it, “climate change”. Global warming is defined by the Merriam-Webster Dictionary as “an increase in the earth's atmospheric and oceanic temperatures widely predicted to occur due to an increase in the greenhouse effect resulting especially from pollution.” The cause of this warming of the overall atmosphere of earth is anthropogenic, or in other words, caused by humans. The reason why it is an underrated problem is because it’s effects are not seen immediately and it is a slow process. I don’t believe in the chance of a zombie apocalypse type of an outbreak that signifies the “end” of the world,…

Global warming is a real threat. The magnitude of disaster, however, is not yet known for the future. Critics who claim that climate change is a hoax because summers get hot and winters get cold are missing the point entirely (Mazo 1). Over time, there has been an increase in the intensity of natural disasters such as hurricanes and flooding. Per Radetzki, “Violent and frequent hurricanes…

“This is not some distant problem of the future. This is a problem that is affecting americans right now. Whether it means increased flooding, greater vulnerability to droughts, more severe wildfires--all these things are having an impact on americans as we speak.” - U.S. President Barack Obama. Global warming is an issue filled to the brim with side effects, spilling all over the world right now. When people talk about it, they seem to take it a lot lighter than it is truly. It is causing more extreme weather, including droughts, hurricanes, floods, and fires. Do you know how many lives extreme weather has taken? 606,000 people have died from floods, droughts, and extreme storms. While 4.1 million people have been injured or made homeless. According to U.N. Officials the death toll will only increase, just like our temperatures. Allow me to slow down, after all, this isn’t an informative piece, but a persuasive one.…

It shows the different changes in the earth every year and how fast that changes occur. It is faster because we don’t value our environment, we don’t use it properly, we don’t conserve and replace it. That’s why we experience global warming. And that’s the reason why movie 2012 created. In the movie the earth crust explodes because of too much heat. The things above the land were breaking into pieces continuously. And the water cover the land until theres no land to seen.…

Many scientists believe that Global warming will have a massive effect on the climate and weather on our planet. This could happen one of two ways. The first is that an increase in temperature will cause polar ice caps to melt. If the Earth 's major ice caps were to melt, sea level would be raised anywhere from 7-14 meters (Ramanathan, 4). This would result in severe flooding. For example, the entire bottom section of Florida would disappear completely. A second way Global Warming could turn is that a temperature increase will cause evaporation and clouding, which would lower the earth 's temperature and eventually result in an ice age(Ramanathan, 5). If either of these scenarios were to occur, the repercussions would be tragic to the entire planet and everything living on it.…
