Civil rights activists Rosa Parks was born, Rosa McCauley on February 4, 1913, in Tuskegee, Alabama. Her maternal grandparents, Rose and Sylvester Edwards, were former slaves. Her mother, Leona Edwards, was a teacher, and her father, James McCauley, was a carpenter, bricklayer, and stone man. Rosa was the first of two children. Rosa’s parents had different reasons for wanting to live in Tuskegee.…
My schooldays were of the nineteen fifties and sixties, the system of education at that time was Secondary Modern, the methods used would have been somewhat different from those used today, then the teacher would stand at the front of the class, and explain something, using their voice, a blackboard and a piece of chalk, the role of the pupil was to quietly listen, copy and/ or remember, the text and schoolbooks would remain at school at the end of the day. Now as in those days the role of imparting knowledge was important, that is where the similarity…
It is the sole duty of the teacher to assess the different learning styles early and develop a plan of action. An effective educator should have the ability to foster the students’ confidence levels and monitor the teaching strategies that are unsuccessful. I find that relating math problems to real-life situations enables the students to grasp the material in a unique way. Other ways to address a class with different learning styles is to allow peer tutoring and demonstrate cooperative learning. Cooperative learning allows the students to learn the material as a group. This method is extremely useful because it stimulates discussion and creates an environment where mistakes and triumphs are shared. Peer tutoring is effective because it allows certain students to receive help in a smaller setting. This approach is preferred by most students because it allows them to work with another classmate on an individual basis.…
Thesis Statement: Online education provides students with flexible schedules and the ability to work at their own pace, while a traditional education provides students with the ability to interact with teachers and peer while learning.…
In today’s society we can choose to take online classes or the traditional way in a classroom the two differ in many ways, but the concept of the two are the same the goal is for the student to learn and apply the information given. Each setting has its pros and its cons. Having more than one choice in how to learn is beneficial to each individual because everyone learns in different ways. Some people learn better by themselves without any distractions and others learn better in a group setting. Each person knows which setting is a better fit for them, and which setting would help them be more successful in their classes.…
I am arguing for the reasons why there shouldn’t be speed limits. My first reason is because sometimes people be having places to be. My second reason is because what’s the point of having speed limits if most people don’t follow them. My third reason is because a lot of people have their own speed.…
The two different approaches will affect the instructional methods used for adults and children. The pedagogical approach assumes that “the learner enters into an educational activity with little experience that can be used in the learning process[1]” therefore they become what are called “dependent personality” who relies on the teacher for everything. In this scenario, the teacher is the dominant person who has all the knowledge, they make every decision regarding the teaching/learning process including all the learning needs, what and how knowledge is learned and the classroom becomes teacher-dominated. In this teacher-dominated classroom, there may be little input from the students and student would not work together to share ideas and information to promote creative and independent thinking. The learning needs of the students become secondary as “student achievement is at the forefront of teacher-centered curriculum, but teachers are driven to meet accountability standards and often sacrifice the needs of the students to ensure exposure to the standards.[2]” Therefore what you find in this classroom is “teacher talks, students listen”, “teacher asks questions,…
Old school methods of teaching have become known as “chalk and talk” where a teacher stands in front of the chalkboard and lectures the whole period with limited time at the end of class to discuss what the students have learned. Some of these methods have become obsolete with new computer-based technology changing the educational scene continuosly yet some methods are so far kept intact. Every classroom schedule has set aside time of each day for the basic areas of study but with the thought of a new way for kids to learn maybe this too may eventually become obsolete.…
First phase of the communication, three learning styles identify were” interpersonal, intrapersonal, and naturalistic.” At first, naturalistic type of learner likes to have a profound understanding of nature, and form a study groups with like same interests and likes to study outside instead of inside and intent to learn faster by looking or studying at plants, animals, or absorbing creations on the earth, (Howard Gardner, Harvard University Professor, 1983). In second, interpersonal type of learner would be enables to learn from one another by expressing his ideas, thoughts, and experiences. By creating relationships with others and involving group discussion, people intent to learn faster or taking in knowledge more rapidly. An interpersonal may take the lead in teaching materials to others.…
According to The World Book Encyclopaedia (1988) teaching is a process by which a person helps other people to learn. Teaching strategies are tools that teachers and professors use to partake knowledge about the subject matter to the students efficiently. If one is to wonder, he/she will notice that different forms of teaching were being done by the professors, and that teaching method is also a factor and it also affects his/her progress in the education program. As decades pass, some teaching strategies have been evolved, and sometimes even newer strategies were discovered and performed, and technology has also taken part in this innovation. Every student has his/her own ‘typical’ teaching method that is most effective to be used to them in their process in learning, which means different students have different preferences depending on their capabilities, and on which particular method is proven to be effective to them. A movie entitled ‘Forrest Gump’ once quoted: “Life is like a box of chocolates. You never know what you’re gonna get.” Of course, not every single strategy is perfect and each has its own flaw, and that makes it necessary to conduct a research to gather information about how those teaching methods work, as well as its effect to the students.…
These values can help improve quality of life, develop potential and offer purpose to learners but will also, hopefully, make them productive citizens. Personal development in the student is paralleled in the educator - autonomy an important vision for learner and tutor alike To learn, ourselves, from experiences, reflection, evaluation and self-investigation is the basis for continuing professional development and enhances us as professionals, leading to a better teacher. It is a teacher’s responsibility to keep up to date with educational change and subject specialism, as well as technology advances and basic skills [English and Maths]. This can be…
As Hong Kong’s population shrinks, school enrolment also drops. There is now a heated debate over the government’s implementation of small-class teaching or class reduction in schools. Schools believe that small-class teaching is the best solution because by reducing the teacher-student ratio, there can be more interaction between teachers and students. However, the government maintains that this applies only to primary levels. For secondary schools, the best solution is to cut the number of S.1 classes by one in each school. In about 500 words, write a letter to the Editor of South China Morning Post stating your views on this issue from the perspective of a secondary school student and giving reasons for them.…
The first and most important factor is that tutorial class is the trend. In recent years, no matter what performance the students get in school, all students will go to the tutorial class even their result is good in school. It is because they afraid the result will fall or lose if they don’t go. Because of this thought, many students have the tutorial class blindly. They don’t concern about whether the classes content is efficient or suit to them. Therefore, they cannot get the real improvement.…
Next we analyze the learners and the context in which they will learn the material and in which they will use the material. The learner’s current skills, preferences and attitudes are determined along with the characteristics of the instructional setting and the setting in which the skills will eventually be used.…
Most of people’s mainstream today is the one who can teach and educate the lesson is the teacher. It caused by the work place of the teacher is in the building named school, so everybody does not pay attention about teaching and educating. They think that those are the teacher’s obligation. That such mainstream is causing the careless of the parent or guardian of the student at home about teaching and educating beyond the school. The example for this case is a phenomenon that is parents do not want invites their children to study over again about their lesson in home. In their thought their children was study the lesson with their teacher in the school so they do not have to invite them to study over again in home.…
