Roots support photosynthesis and respiration by absorbing minerals and water and by storing organic nutrients. They also anchor the plant. Some roots have mycorrhizae, which increase the surface area and therefore increase the absorption. The endodermis, which is the innermost layer of cells in the root cortex, surrounds the vascular cylinder. It is the passage of minerals from the cortex into the vascular tissue.…

In the Chapter titled American Copia 2 Marisol tells a story of how she and her boyfriend secure a grocery chart from a nearby market to be used in case Marisol goes into labor. Marisol and her boyfriend do not have a car and the hospital is too far for them to walk to. This brief story about a grocery cart was intriguing because after reading it I felt that it wasn't just about simply stashing away a chart for future use. What caught my attention about this passage was the lack of access Marisol had to basic health care at the hospital. Granted she and her partner did not have a car it seemed off putting that they were not able to easily get to and from the hospital even when living two blocks away. To better grasp the possibilities of why…
The quest of the Sangreal in Le Morte D'Arthur depicts several of the characteristics of Medieval Romance. For instance, Sir Launcelot's struggle to find the grail and come to terms with his sins reflects the quality. Sir Launcelot's attempt at the grail begins on page 387, and the ensuing events show the knight as the tale's protagonist. Another key element of this literature was the notion of a quest and the physical and mental struggles involved in it. In portraying the fundamental characteristic of the quest, Malory writes of Sir Galahad and his pursuit of the Holy Grail. Sir Galahad's quest tested every facet of his character, but the spiritual rewards were received in the end. When Sir Galahad finally attained the Holy Grail he declared, "I thank you (Jesus) for giving me what I have desired; and now, if it please you, I pray, may I leave this world?" (430). Since his quest was over, his wish was granted, and angels lifted his soul to heaven.…
In The Cosmopolitan Canopy, the author, Elijah Anderson, discusses and describes public areas in the city of Philadelphia, where diverse groups of people can mingle and relax in peace, despite their differences. Anderson refers to these public spaces as “cosmopolitan canopies.” According to the author, who has lived and worked in different areas of Philadelphia for over 30 years, the city is more racially, ethnically, and socially diverse than ever and is full of “canopies,” which allows strangers to fearlessly interact with each other (Anderson, xv). The author provides a vivid description of the city as it would be seen on a walking tour, emphasizing the cosmopolitan canopies, as well as areas that could be classified as de facto segregation and usually experience more racial tension from visiting outsiders and other ethnic and social groups.…

No matter what, we are almost always talking about violence masculinity in America. Whether we are talking about the horrifying, high-profile mass shooting we have seen over recent decades, the far greater rates of murder and gun violence we see on a day – to – day basis that barely register in the national news, or the epidemic of sexual violence and domestic violence, the vast majority of this violence is committed by men, young men, and boys (Jackson Katz, 2013). Throughout this essay the topics covered will be how culture defines masculinity, according to the film, violent masculinity as a cultural norm, agents of socialization that teach boys how to be men, the cool pose and the pressure to conform, the ‘ratcheting up’ of what it takes to be a real man, and effects on males’ understanding of their masculinity, as well as the short and long-term effects on the lives of men and women, and on society.…

During a period of depression and eye problems from 1853-56, Melelville published a series of stories. Melville exploits Bartleby's infamous remark "I would prefer not to" to reflect his protesting attitude toward his meaningless job. Secondly, Melville gives attention to Bartleby's actions, and his constant coexistence with the inescapable wall. As a final method, Melville once more supplies you with Bartleby's actions involving his imprisonment and concluding suicide. It is through these three literary techniques of establishing character that Melville is able to constitute the idea that an insignificant job in a capitalistic society will produce an alienated worker. Herman Melville's, "Bartleby the Scrivener" is a story that takes place on Wall Street, peopled by workers of a common mold. The message that Melville intends for the reader is how society has little tolerance for social deviance. Herman Melville relates the story of Bartleby, the telling of a tragic story sprinkled with humorous subjectivity, the actual story line, through its progression should determine its categorization. For this reason, Bartleby the Scrivener is a tragedy. Throughout the story, Melville relates the many troubling incidents experienced with the mysterious copier.…
Older leaves at the bottom of plant will start to become yellowish (chlorosis) while the rest of the plant’s leaves will be light green. Calcium (Ca) Newer leaves at the top of the plant will be distorted and have irregular shape. Blossom rot-end also may occur. Magnesium Centre of leaf has green arrowhead (Mg) due to yellowing of edges of the leaves. Phosphorus (P) Burnt tips of leaf coupled with dark-green or reddish-purple appearance of older leaves. Potassium (K) Wilting and scorching older leaves. Chlorosis begins from the base of the leaf, moving inwards from the margin. Sulphur (S) Yellowing of younger leaves and may be followed by older leaves. Micronutrient Boron (B) Death of terminal buds. Tree’s growth is stunted and hollow stems and fruit (hollow heart) and brittle, discoloured leaves and loss of fruiting bodies Copper (Cu) Dieback of stems and twigs, yellowing of leaves, stunted growth and pale green leaves that wither easily. Iron (Fe) Interveinal tissues in young leaves started to green followed by complete yellowing to almost white, and then browning. Manganese Interveinal chlorosis but not as (Mn) distinct as in iron deficiency followed by brown necrotic spots delayed maturity and white/gray spots on some cereal crops. Molybdenum General yellowing at older leaves (Mo) and other leaves are light green. Zinc (Zn) Stunted appearance with yellowing at veins of new leaves and delayed maturity. Chlorine (Cl) Mainly affecting cereal crop, branches are wilting and restricted.…
The majority of plant species have various kinds of fungi associated with their root systems in a kind of mutualistic symbiosis known as mycorrhiza. The fungi help the plants gain water and mineral nutrients from the soil, while the plant gives the fungi carbohydrates manufactured in photosynthesis. Some plants serve as homes for endophytic fungi that protect the plant from herbivores by producing toxins. The fungal endophyte, Neotyphodium coenophialum, in tall fescue (Festuca arundinacea) does tremendous economic damage to the cattle industry in the U.S.…
