Early in novel, Paul moved from Lake Windsor Middle School to Tangerine because of the sinkhole. Once he was there, he chose to try out for the Tangerine soccer team. He was happy because he couldn't play soccer at Lake Windsor Middle School, because Mrs. Fisher signed an IEP and the soccer coach said that the insurance wouldn’t allow Paul to play because it was dangerous. He had a new chance at the new school to play soccer…
First, Paul’s life is affected when Mrs. Fisher allows Paul to go to Tangerine Middle School while Lake Windsor Middle School is being fixed. While Paul was at Lake Windsor Downs, he had an IEP file filled out under his name, which prevented him from playing soccer. An IEP file documents a person’s medical issues and due to Paul’s issues with his eyes, his Mom chose to fill one out. When Mrs. Fisher approved Paul’s request to go to Tangerine Middle School, it changed his life because he could play soccer without worrying about an IEP file. Paul’s Mom did not fill out an IEP form for his new school. “Mom looked at me with her nervous smile, but she nodded right along with him. The heavens had opened up for me,” (Bloor 94). This shows that Mrs. Fisher’s choice changed Paul’s life because it tells the readers that Paul is excited and ecstatic with the decision. Paul is happy about what happened because he feels that…

What would the story be like if Paul had stayed at Lake Windsor Middle? ”Tangerine” by Edward Bloor is about a legally blind 7th grader named Paul who likes soccer. When a sinkhole swallows his school he makes a choice that changes his life and leaves memories that he won’t forget. Choices are very important in everyone’s life. One wrong choice can impact someone’s entire life. Other people’s choices can also affect others’ lives. An example, though very drastic, would be if someone shot you. While this is a very big and drastic choice, it shows how much a single choice can have an effect on multiple people’s lives. Although Paul has made many choices, he has made some that changed his whole life.…

“The bird will be white with streaks of gold like a crown atop its head. It will fly” (Mafi the28). This is what Juliette was thinking when she was locked up in her cell, unkempt, secluded from the world because she was born with a power she did not choose to have. She was locked up for 264 days and a white bird with streaks of gold was all she dreamt about and being able to touch people without hurting them. I can connect to Juliette’s imagination; I can evaluate Juliette’s personality; I can question Adam’s thoughts and actions toward Juliette.…

Throughout Jay Asher’s novel Thirteen Reasons Why, he has demonstrated to the reader how one’s inability to make rational decisions can lead to another individual’s suicide. Over the course of the novel, the reader follows the events in the life of the protagonist, Hannah Baker that have led to her tragic suicide. One can argue that secondary character, Alex Standall plays a significant role in the story, and in Hannah Baker’s suicide, as none of the events would have occurred had it not been for Alex’s list. To begin with, like Hannah Baker, Alex Standall is a new student at Crestmont high school. The two immediately become friends, alongside Jessica Davis. Arguably, Alex can be described as a cruel, sneaky boy, who is very close-minded. The reason why Alex is on Hannah’s list of people, who contributed to her suicide is because of a list he created in their freshman year. Alex’s “who’s hot/who’s not” list was supposed to be a way of getting back at his ex-girlfriend, Jessica Davis. Alex placed Hannah’s name for the “best ass in freshman year.” This shows that Alex will do anything to get revenge making him a very vengeful, impulsive decision maker. As Hannah states “Okay. I just looked over every name- every story- that completes these tapes. And guess what. Every single event documented here may never have happened had you, Alex not written my name on that list” (Asher Page 41). This clearly shows that Alex contributed to all that occurred in Hannah’s life. Hannah believes that if Alex was capable of seeing the impact of the list on her life, he would not have created the list and as a result none of the tragic events (including her suicide) would have occurred. Additionally, as Hannah Baker said herself “It gives people- some people- the go-ahead to treat you like nothing but that specific body part” (Asher Page 44). By putting her name on that…
The word character naturally invokes an array of specific attributes unique of an individual or environment. Our earliest experiences with character stem from being read classic children’s books, like Maurice Sendak’s, “Where The Wild Things Are,” or Dr. Seuss’s, “Green Eggs and Ham,” which portray distinct personality traits of the main character and demonstrate self-development as the character acquires knowledge from his or her life experience. Like the characters in our favorite books, each of us represents a malleable being whose shape can transform with the beauty and power of God’s glory throughout our life journey.…

One is not born knowing the difference between right and wrong, but must observe the actions of others to confirm their own beliefs. Often, while observing others’ lives, adolescents do not remember the respectable actions of those around them, but instead set people apart based on the evil they encountered. It is much easier for someone to see another’s actions and understand its immorality than to recognize the decent ones; for those who perform good deeds do not lure attention but those who act poorly always draw a crowd. Kathryn Stockett acknowledged this aspect of human nature and applied it in her bestselling novel The Help by including the character of Hilly Holbrook to depict the “villain” which lied within most of the white southerners…
