Target Corporation's Racetrack-Store Model
“Racetrack” store model was introduced by Target Corporation in the year of 1975. This is to make sure there is a consistency from store to store. In order to display more products in store, passageways are added in between the perimeters so that customers could find the products easily and provide more space for the staff to display their stocks on shelf.
Till now, Target Corporation still using “racetrack” layouts, it’s a combination of grid layout and freeflow layout. A clear visual of a store could provide a pleasant shopping environment to the consumers (Target Corporation, 2013)

    Burlington Coat Factory is not what I would call an aesthetically pleasing store. The fluorescent lights are almost blinding, the signs above the racks of clothing are incredibly plain, the displays don’t all match; Burlington Coat Factory is not the place to go for a relaxing shopping experience.     Target Corporation was founded in 1902 by George Dayton in Minneapolis, Minnesota. It was originally called “Dayton Dry Goods Company” and then later became Dayton Company in 1910. By 1962, Dayton Company opened its first discount store in Roseville, Minnesota by the name of “Target”. By 2000, all Dayton Hudson Corporations changed their name to Target Corporation.
