Theranos is just one example of a business doing this, a more recent example would be the Samsung Galaxy Note 7 that was released and sold to consumers who had no idea that if the phone got to hot it would explode. It took at least 20 different instances of the phones exploding before they finally recalled them all. The bigger corporations are ignoring the consumer and this is causing problems all around the world big and …show more content…
small. Samsung was lucky no one was seriously injured by the exploding phone.
Donald Trump is a well known businessman he is known for making remarks such as “tax evasion is smart” and “We will cut so much, your head will spin.” Donald Trump is saying we need to stop wasting money and start saving however it's companies like his that are skipping out on the taxes we need in order to really start the ball rolling towards getting our country out of debt. In the article Marcus calls trump out by saying “The New York Times recently disclosed that US presidential candidate Donald Trump is a tax-avoidance enthusiast, as well. Trump calls tax avoidance “smart.” Most people, including me, call it selfish, insidious, irresponsible, and a breach of the social contract that enabled him and his family to accrue their wealth in the first place. Any society that made a virtue out of his reckless and self-serving behavior could not function, much less prosper.”.
Another company called Tazreen has had instances where employees are being put in dangerous circumstances so not only are corporations ignoring the safety of its consumers but also its employees. This quote from an article titled The 3 Worst Corporations Abusing their employees and you tells us just how dangerous the working environment is to the employees “Tazreen factory fire in Bangladesh took the lives of 112 workers. On April 10, 2013, Tazreen factory fire survivor Sumi Abedin arrived in Washington, D.C. to meet with Rep. George Miller (D-Calif.) in hopes of shedding light on the dangerous working conditions of the workers who make the clothes that are sold in American stores.” They then proceed to talk about multiple other instances where employees were killed in unsafe working conditions.
Lucy P.
Marcus makes the argument that corporations are treating us unfairly but she has not looked much into the instances that are actually killing people and businesses are facing little to no time for the killings and suffering of their employees. She says in her article “The reciprocity norm has been virtually omnipresent since the dawn of human civilization. Yet we cannot take it for granted. We must not lose sight of its value, in our personal or professional lives, and we must not allow our leaders to do so, either.” meaning we need to step up and stop these innocent deaths and critical injuries from
continuing.
Lucy P. Marcus makes a lot of points in her article about how corporations are trying to dodge taxes and dodge responsibilities, she uses Trump and Theranos as examples I believe she merely touched to the surface of these problems, if someone were to dig deep enough they could find many other companies that are hiding things that could potentially hurt consumers. In closing we need to reason with corporations and allow both consumers and employees to stay safe.
