Fearless and honest, Dorine's character in the play Tartuffe challenges the traditional biased of domestic roles of the female gender in general or in a whole during this period of time. “Don't interrupt me further. Harkee, you have taken certain liberties of late that i dislike. I tell you that child said Orgon (II,ii). In this scene Dorine constantly speaks without being spoken to ,this action shows bravery as one of her characteristics and that even though she may be a servant her influence and presence is the same or even greater than those of her superior.
For example, when Orgon addresses Mariane Dorine’s master, she is hesitant to respond in any manner due to the values of her culture which indicates that man are the alpha male of their household and the women should be submissive to their will. In short, daughter, you must obey, and show an entire deference for my choice said Orgon (II,ii). For a minor character Dorine plays the most significant role,Without Dorine’s constant interruptions Orgon would have swiftly betrothed both Tartuffe and Mariane. Dorine’s distractions allowed more time to reveal the hypocrisy hidden from Orgon by tartuffe. Dorine contributed and influenced so much to the play that she even tries to convince her master Mariane to change her perspective on the values of her culture as a way to stand up for herself and for what she wants and not what her father Orgon wants.
