We should acknowledge from the start that decorating the human body has been popular throughout history in both tribal and civilized cultures. For many people tattoos are a reminder of a person or event and for others they are merely decoration.
What is more, tattooing and piercing give people the freedom to express themselves creatively using body art, and the many professional artists offer people a safe way to do this.
To my mind, tattooing and piercing are simply forms of self-expression, a means of marking ourselves in a society that fosters, both wittingly and unwittingly.
It goes without saying that there are a lot of negative effects of tattooing and piercing.
Such as: Infections, including deadly infections like staph, tetanus, hepatitis B or C, or HIV , uncontrolled bleeding, nerve damage, allergic reactions, difficulty finding a job or abscesses.
Another con of tattoos and certain piercings is the difficulty of removing them, if you happen to have a change of heart.
Tattoos are also permanent and removing them often leaves unsightly scars; even plastic surgery may also be required.
That’s why, if you are considering a tattoo or body piercing, you must carefully consider these consequences.
Contemporary adolescent and young adult culture has embraced tattoing and body piercing, as a form of self-expression
There has always been an issue with underage teens wanting to get tattoos and piercings, because of several reasons. Firstly, it is their parents, who sometimes don’t understand new tendencies and styles in fashion. Secondly, teens are exposed to the negative influence of Sports stars, rock stars, movie and telvision icons who are covered in images and piercings; Needless to say, children adore, admire and look up to them.
From their angle of vision, tats and piercings may demonstrate loyalty to their friends. Because teens are experimenting with their identities they may be drawn to piercings or tattoos as a form of expression or rebellion.
Psychologists assert that these forms of adornment can also be a sign of deviant behavior in teens. Sometimes piercings or tattoos are a form of self injury or self harm, resulting from teens trying to express their negative feelings or seeking attention or help.
In my opinion ,I think for the person who would try these fashions, it is not self-mutilation, but rather self enhancement and adornment, a means of saying "I am' in a way that is heard...body bling!
He may think if he does not tattoo himself, there are very few degrees of separation(степень разделения) between any adolescent and someone in his life who bears a tattoo or is pierced somewhere on their body.On the other hand he propably wants to stand out and pay attention to his personality or just show off among his comrades or friends.
To sum everything up, I should admit, parents should teach teens to value and respect themselves and their body, and encourage them to find healthy outlets for self-expression and for negative feelings, such as calming music, poetry, journals, exercise, or meditation.
‘’Just because someone has piercings or tattoos, doesnt mean that he/she is a bad person. Stop judging so much on appearance and start getting to know people.’’

There are quite a few similarities to both tattoos and body piercing. You risk an infection with both. Since each of them is will be piercing the skin you must be sure the artist or piercer you choose is very sterile. The tattoo machine or piercing tools should be sterilized in an autoclave after each use, unless disposable then it should be thrown away. An autoclave is an instrument used to sterilize equipment and supplies by subjecting them to high pressure saturated steam at 121 °C or more, typically for 15–20 minutes depending on what is being sterilized(Wilkinsin pg 57). They both require time to heal, and aftercare, the proper aftercare is important to prevent infection as well. Neither should ever be done by someone that is not a professional. A homemade tattoo or piercing is more likely to get infected.…

The effects of them are only obvious; one will have them, generally, for the rest of their life. Most piercings can close completely when taken out later. Tattoos, on the other hand hold a much greater promise of permanence. They can be laser treated off; however it is both painful and costly, usually at least double of the tattoo itself. In support of Martin’s reasoning, the tattoo I am having laser treated is my smallest one and was done spur of the moment. There was no thought or consideration, as it was more of a getting a tattoo for the sake of getting a…

The art of tattooing originated more than 5000 years ago. Since then, tattooing has touched nearly every part of the world. Many tribes and most cultures from all over the world use tattooing as a means of displaying their individualism and connect themselves to their ancestors and or groups. Tattoos have had a colourful history. The Japanese used to mark criminals by tattooing their foreheads. The Nazi’s used tattoos to dehumanize the Jews and take away their identity and replace it with a number. Many criminal gangs use tattoos to show their loyalty to their group and to intimidate others. These are just a few of the reasons I believe that tattoos have a stigma. On the other hand, many tribe still use tattoos as a right of passage into adulthood. While others get them to celebrate life and remember the lives of others.…

Tattoos can be beautiful works of art and can hold a lot of meaning for someone. It just seems wrong to ask someone to hide a piece of him or herself. “Indeed, body modification practices have become increasingly normalized through mass media exposure, not only as news or lifestyle pieces but also as the primary substantive content of television shows like Extreme Makeover, The Swan, Miami Ink, or Inked” (ADAMS, 2009) There are not only television shows about the tattoo and piercing world but also magazines and it even has a…

Tattoos for the longest time have been considered taboo, and for the most part the only people you would see with them would be bikers, gang members and generally thought of as outcasts of the general public. That is changing, and changing fast. Tattoos are becoming more mainstream, and accepted. The reasoning for getting a tattoo varies from person to person, and is something that has been going on since the prehistoric times. The meaning behind a tattoo also varies from tattoo to tattoo and with the person. A person can get a tattoo to represent a change in life, or to show love or respect for another person. A tattoo can also represent different qualities of a person as well. There are a lot of different types of tattoos from abstract, natural, dedication, simple and complex.…

One of the most popular body modifications is tattooing. Tattoos are a way of expressing yourself in a more artistic way. Any image, symbol, word, etc, you could ever want can be tattooed onto your body. The process of tattooing starts “by injecting ink into a person 's skin. To do this, they use an electrically powered tattoo machine that resembles (and sounds like) a dental drill. The machine moves a solid needle up and down to puncture the skin between 50 and 3,000 times per minute. The needle penetrates the skin by about a millimeter and deposits a drop of insoluble ink into the skin with each puncture.” (Wilson, 2000) This process leaves an almost permanent image on your skin. I say almost permanent because with the technology of today, there are ways to get tattoos removed (laser tattoo removal) or to fade…

It seems like everyone has a tattoo or piercing these days. In the past, this type of permanent artwork or body ornaments were reserved for outlaws, sailors and biker gangs. Now these body decorations can be found on teenagers. In Dr. Andres Martin 's article "On Teenagers and Tattoos" he explains the significance and function of tattoos and piercings for teenagers. Dr. Martin explains the reasons that teenagers are so attracted to this form of permanent marking on their bodies and why they are getting these adornments. Adolescents are getting tattoos for several reasons, to fit in with a group, to create an individual persona or to create a sense of stability or control over their bodies. Parents and their children are usually at odds over the control of their bodies. This is a explainable cause of such permanent placement of tattoos. Adolescents like to have a sense of stability. They are getting tattoos and piercings to commit to a certain time or event in their life. These dermal embellishments, like tattoos and body piercings, are set apart by their permanent nature, this is the reason for the appeal to teenagers. Dr. Martin explains that adults should look at the reasons for the tattoos, instead of immediately judging the teen, to discover and uncover the reasons behind these body decorations.…

Murder is regarded as a crime in all modern civilized societies. Crime is shown in the media and is prevalent in society. Early in America s history, killing a human being was a relatively private matter to be dealt with by families or larger kinship groups. Deliberate killing (such as infanticide, cannibalism, head hunting, or the killing of the very old) is classified as murder in modern law, but such practices were viewed as customary and acceptable early in America s history when the settlers first arrived on the continent.…
