Bad Blood Review For several decades, popular culture influenced society in many ways, ranging from social settings to personal attitudes. One of the most influential women in today’s pop culture is Taylor Swift, a country artist. Plenty of singers including Taylor Swift use music videos to promote themselves by conveying themes and opinions the audience can relate to. Swift’s music video, “Bad Blood,” was released on May 17, 2015. Swift premiered “Bad Blood” in the opening of the Billboard Music Awards. The setting takes place in London. Several well-known celebrities are featured within the music video to generate a greater number of audiences. No one would think that the music video to this song would be action-like. In the beginning scene of the music video, Swift who plays Catastrophe, the protagonist, wears a lingerie piece and Selena Gomez who plays Arysn, the antagonist, fighting off a group of suited men in an office located in London. They defeat the men and Gomez double crosses Swift by kicking her out of a window. The song begins when Swift is lying on top of a damaged car as Kendrick Lamar, who plays Welvin da Great starts to rap his verse while Lena Dunham smokes a cigar. Hailee Seinfeld who plays The Trinity nurses Swift back to health. After time, Swift gets back into training for revenge. With her training, several celebrities including Gigi Hadid, Cara Delevingne, and Jessica Alba are dressed up as action figures. As soon as she finishes her training, Swift and her group start their revenge on Gomez and her members. The two teams confront each other while a huge explosion takes place in the background of the setting. Lastly, there is an iconic scene where Swift walks away from an explosion and her red hair glowing as she leads her army of most influential women today’s generation. The video finishes as Swift and Gomez strike each other in the face at the same time. The story plot does a good job demonstrating how society teaches girls to compete with one another rather than empowering each other. Although Swift and Gomez are friends in real life, the music video portrays them as enemies towards one another. The video features women betraying each other. This shows that not everyone is going to get along in society. This story plot is seen as “original” but adding superhero effects and fighting scenes allows both genders to identify the conflict of the video and to promote a
