Tchaikovsky's 1812 Overture
The 1812 Overture is a sixteen minute, thirty nine second long classical composition by Tchaikovsky written in 1880 to commemorate Russia’s defeat of Napoleons Grand Armenia was scored for an orchestra that consists of the following:
• brass band
• woodwinds (a piccolo, 2 flutes, clarinets, bassoons and oboes, and one English horn)
• Brass(four horns in F, two trumpets, two cornets, three trombones and a tuba).The trombones have to be two tenor and one bass
• Strings: first and second violins, violas, violoncellos and double basses
• Percussion: timpani, an orchestral bass drum, a snare drum, cymbals, a tambourine, a triangle, a carillon and a cannon
The composition portrays the distress of the Russian people at Napoleons impending invasion.
