“The mediocre teacher tells. The good teacher explains. The superior teacher demonstrates. The great teacher inspires.”Nelson Mandela once said, “Education is the most powerful weapon you can use to change the world.” The teacher imparts education hence the role of the teacher is of paramount importance both in the present and the future of a student.
Teachers are an integral part of everyone’s life. Teachers serve the society by being a philosopher, a friend and a guide to countless students through the different stages of their growth. They prepare them to take on the world which they are a part of. The teacher must play different roles in a student’s life. He must be his guide helping him find his true calling in life and he must be a philosopher enlightening his young audience about the ways of the world. In their childhood years apart from their mothers, children spend maximum time with their teachers. At this stage in their lives children are like clay waiting to be molded into works of art. A teacher carries a big responsibility on his shoulders - the job of shaping the thoughts of the minds of the future. Teachers look after the best interests of the students. It is their goal to raise the kids to be good citizens and good human beings. In the early years when the student is first exposed to people outside his family, he is scared and frightened. He hopes to find in his teacher a friend who will function as his mother away from home. As the students grow the teachers play a very important role in shaping the students future. The seeds are sown when the mind is young. It is the teacher who must now not only help the student decipher the facts and the figures, he must be his confidant and his counsel. It is important that a teacher befriend his students because students respond better to friendship than to authority. If the student perceives his teacher as his friend he will not be hesitant in airing his doubts. A friend is someone who understands you and

I disagree with Leon Botstein's essay "Let Teenagers Try Adulthood". Botstein argues that teenagers have matured much more quickly over the past few years. Therefore, he believes high school be abolished and a child's education should begin earlier in order for students to graduate around the age of sixteen rather than eighteen. High school is intended for students of a certain maturity level. But now, students are exceeding that level rapidly. Botstein sees high school as a place full of superficial, adolescent teenagers that care more about appearances, popularity, cliques and sports than education. Because they have reached a high maturity level at such a young age already, there are many students that are wasting their junior and senior years away in high school rather than starting college. I disagree with Botstein however. High school is a transition period for students to learn how to take on more responsibilities. It is the time for teenagers to become more social and independent. While I do agree with Botstein on his point of maturity levels growing faster, I don't agree that students should be graduating earlier than they currently are. Not all students are capable of the same things. Most high school students are not prepared to enter into adulthood just yet. They still need someone to guide them along a path until they've graduated. Age restrictions are applied to the youth community for a reason. The majority of teenagers are not ready to handle the responsibilities that come their way. The legal age for drinking is 21 because of safety concerns as well as the responsibility that comes with the consumption of alcohol. Fortunately for Texas, teenagers are able to obtain their drivers license at the age of sixteen, but other states, like California, have citizens wait until they are eighteen to obtain their license with the same privileges as a sixteen year old from Texas. Responsibilities are tough to handle, even for an adult. So why have the same…

Alexander the Great said, “I am indebted to my father for living, but to my teacher for living well” (www.brainyquote.com). He was a man who knew something about both living well and about teachers. No man has ever risen to a place of greater prominence in such a brief span. Furthermore, very few could boast of having a better teacher than Aristotle. He has been dead for well above two thousand years, yet there is not an undergraduate student, perhaps in the western world today, who has not studied Aristotle to some degree. This is the quality teacher the author of this quote had. He had it right, in my opinion. This is the ultimate goal of teaching and teachers to enable the student to live well.…

Learning however, won’t take place just because one wishes it; the opportunity for learning must be created by the teacher. This happens when the teacher is knowledgeable and proficient in the subject they teach, when they have the desire to pass on information and skills sets to others, and when they gain satisfaction from helping others achieve educational goals. Only then, will they be able to serve the needs of the learners by “teaching in a way that…

This paper overviews and compares the personality and characteristic differences between two men. Shamengwa and Corwin are the two men who are compared in this paper from the short story “Shamengwa.” They are compared for their differences, which they have a lot of things uncommon with each other. It also relates these two together by showing how they are both intrigued by the music in which the violin produces. They both play with their heart and play to the point where they make others cry. The paper also overviews how Shamengwa teaches Corwin how to play the violin for his punishment of stealing Shamengwa’s violin in the first place.…

Teachers have always been a excellent influence on students. Teachers also teach students how to be a good influence on other students as well. Teachers teach students how to respect and accept others for who they are not by their race or nationality. Having good teachers determines your education that you will need for the years to come. Passage I, by Ernesto Gallorzo and "Tornado Drill" by David Martin show how teachers positively influence the lives of students as revealed through the authors' use of dialogue, theme, and figurative language.…

The principal is an instructional leader, a teacher of all teachers. Instructional leadership can be broken into two categories: direct and indirect instructional leadership. Examples of direct instructional leadership that a principal should provide are staff development, teacher observations/evaluations, and supervision. Also providing subordinate’s instructions about their tasks and including what is expected of each staff member. (Northouse, 2013). As the descriptor “direct instructional leadership” implies, this is instruction that the principal is providing directly to an individual or a group. Direct instructional leadership is focused on the quality of teacher practice, including the quality of the curriculum, teaching and assessments, and the quality of teacher inquiry and teacher…
