Through my educational experience and personal reflection so far, I have some strong beliefs regarding teaching in my future classroom. For the classroom environment, the main belief that I have is that everyone in my classroom has to pay respect to each other. For establishing the classroom culture, I want to inspire the class to be curious all the time and be encouraged to ask “why” questions in class. I also want my students to be caring to each other. In addition, I would like to keep my classroom as a positive learning environment where students see their experiences reflected in the curriculum. I hope that if I bring a real Chinese classroom feeling into the class can motivate my students on greater interested on learning Chinese. Respect each other Respect is one of the most important things to have in a classroom and I also consider it as one of the basic standards to have in a classroom. Not only the students should pay respect to the teachers but also the teachers should pay respect to the students as well. One of the classroom environment strategies that I would use in my future classroom would be the twin posters, which contain both what teachers would expect from the student and what the students expect from the teacher. I think it would really help on increasing the respect level in a classroom. Students can have more equal opportunities on speaking out their opinions to help the teacher create a better environment. Teacher should not be the only one controlling the class. Students are playing a major role in the classroom environment. Teacher should be the one to lead the class. Asking "why" questions Asking “why” question not only can improve students’ learning skills but also can help teachers to understand students’ capabilities. Therefore, it is easier for teachers to make changes on the curriculums based on students’ needs. Most students are very curious about a lot of things. Teachers should be very active on responding on all the questions. In my future class, I think I will have a daily “question routine” to better respond on students’ questions. I will ask each student to come up one question based on the class and have them write their questions on a note and hand it in to me. I will go over all the questions in the next class and select three to five main questions to answer. In this case, I think it helps to encourage students to think more on the learning topic and it is better for me to understand my own curriculum. Bring real Chinese cuture into the classroom
Learning a language is not only about the language itself, but also the culture background behind it. I think I will have some same routines that I learned from my observations to create my own classroom with authentic Chinese learning environment. For instance, I will simulate the Chinese class with real Chinese classroom settings that I experienced in China. We will have the greeting routines at the beginning of every classes. This can help the student to be noticed that the school has already begun so it is time to be focused. This also can help the student to be aware of behaving themselves in class. I hope that bringing in such real Chinese class feeling can help students to be better on learning Chinese language and its culture. These are my three main beliefs in my future teaching. To provide the best learning environment to my students, I still have a long way to go. Teaching is not going to be an easy task and no one was born as a professional teachers. I am looking forward to my student teaching to gain more experience. I hope that I can hold on to my teaching passionate on Chinese language and Chinese culture. Eventually, I hope that I can help my students to achieve their great success on their Chinese studies.
