Teaching Writing Skill
Teaching writing skills
Most people agree that the writing skill is increasingly important and often not adequately taught. When writing is taught in schools, writing instruction often takes a backseat to phonics, handwriting skills, and reading comprehension. A description of some points that a teacher needs to teach so their students can improve their writing abilities will be presented. There are 3 important areas for teaching writing which are: grammar, vocabulary, and the types of writing.
The first one is to teach grammar. Grammar contains sentences constructions. That means that teacher needs to teach students how the sentences are formed. For example: subject verb and object, which would be the basic form. Also the use of tenses, this is very important so students learn to identify the past the present and the future tenses. Grammar will help them develop the order in which they have to write things and for other people to understand what they are trying to say.
The second skill is vocabulary. Vocabulary includes teaching new words to students so they can expand their knowledge of words. It is very important for students to know what each word means in each context. Sometimes students get confused and translate everything from their mother tongue so that is why it is so important to know each word from different contexts. The last skill is to teach the types of writing for example: descriptive writing and informative writing etc. This may help students because they can get familiar with the basic writing assignments such as book reports, social studies reports, short stories, and essays. It is also important that they learn what degree of formality they have to use with ach person. For example they are not going to write the same way they write to their friends that they write to their boss or parents.
There are some points of why it is important to teach writing. It is important because it is used extensively in education, workplace, and for everyday use. If students don’t know how to express themselves in writing, they won’t be able to communicate well with professors, employers or peers. So that I why writing is so important now days.

The Wichita Kid from “The Gunfighter” by Alden Nowlan and a young man living on the streets of Calgary both demonstrate that we fear what we do not understand. Citizens need to personally comprehend someones situation before they can help or judge them directly. Homelessness and poverty are often hard situations to face considering how uncomfortable and awkward it can become. When Kevin O’Brien has a short conversation with Wichita he learns that he is unaware of reality and living his delusional life as a famous gunfighter. Confused and not understanding Wichita’s situation, Kevin tries to solve his own guilt by lending the young boy some spare change. Much like Kevin O’Brien when I encountered the young unfortunate man in Calgary my own heart ached, so I tossed him a couple of loonies and left. Although you feel major misery there is rarely anything you can do to support them without getting deeply involved.…

One thing that particularly bothered me about writing throughout school, was that I never felt that I significantly improved my writing as result of an English class, the classes I took felt very cookie cutter: I mean read a book, answer some questions and write an essay, and then there were projects like write research paper and analyze this book. I mean classes taught grammar, essay structure, literature and that’s about it. I was never taught how to write a thrilling essay with new and original thoughts. It was more like a continuation of practice, that yielded little results and meanwhile in comparison I learned many useful lessons in my math and science classes. Writing was only a necessary skill for school, so I can succeed in my classes and use stand out in applications that require writing. That sums up my feelings about writing…
