Date: 03.01.2012 People Have Become Overly Dependent on Technology What do you think your life would be like without technology? We live in a technologically civilized society, and most of the things we do depend on technology. Ultimately, we can say that ,"living without technology is like living without air". Our lifestyles change each time a new invention is created. In my opinion the most influential technologies are telephones, televisions, cars, and computors. The main purpose of these inventions is to make our life easier. For example, work easier to do and communicate more quickly. We can research items quickly by using the internet; communicate with people from different parts of world within seconds. Although technology has its benefits, people have become too dependent on it. Machines have taken many jobs that people can do themselves. One of examples is computer. Computers have taken over many human jobs. For instance, we do not write articles or other documnts by hand. We use computer, and type them. another example is that we rely on calculators. we do not count in our minds even if it is easy to count in mind. I think this depenedemce has a negative impact in our memory skills. Dependence on technology makes people lazy and moveless. We do not go to the library because we have internet, where we can find information that we need in a short time. Instead of meeting with friends outside and walking with them we conserve via facebook, myspace and other sytes. Some people even text each other being in the same place. We do not go to the store to buy things that we neet, instead we order them from internet, just sitting in the room, without going anywhere. In my opinion it makes people lazier. Nowadays technology does no do only work for us, it also people’s main intertainment. For instance, in the

The first, and what I believe to be the most significant impact our technological environment has made, is the damage it has caused for human capabilities. In the video Dretzin and Rushkoff visit MIT to interview students about multi-tasking and what the students believe about the quality of their own work when multi-tasking. Not surprisingly, most of them believed they could maintain the quality of their work, even while performing several other actions simultaneously. However after testing some of the best multi-tasking students, the results proved otherwise. Students’ quality of work and their speed at which they can complete tasks were obviously impaired. Which, leads me to another impairment, I believe is caused by being so tech-savvy, our attention spans. Another point brought up in the video, is the decreasing attention span of technology users everywhere. Our ability to retrieve almost any information with touch of a couple buttons has caused us to lose our focus. With many devices, come many distractions. I myself am I even fighting the urge to check up on all my social media outlets, as I am writing this essay. So from personal experience I can say that all this technology has definitely made a huge impact on my attention span, work habits, and quality of work. I believe technology has had the same negative impact on the rest of my generation as well.…

Advances in technology cause great controversy. These controversies are centered around the influences technology has on the people who engage in different types of technology. In the article titled “Out Semi-Literate Youth? Not So Fast” by Andrea Lunsford, she explains the importance of technology and how, in most cases, technology is able to help develop students. In another article titled “Hal and Me” by Nicholas Carr, he stresses the point that technology is pushing ‘the good life’ to the wayside. Although both authors have different opinions when it comes to technology, they both agree that changes are occurring due to technological influences on peoples’ brains. Technology plays an extremely large role in the lives of the people in this world, it is important that everyone understands that changes that come with the advances of technology.…

There are several similarities and differences between Maya Angelou's "Champion of the World" and Amy Tan's "Fish Cheeks." In both stories, the main character is trying to fit in with a group of which they are inherently not a part of. Angelou tries to fit in with the elder African Americans in that she copies their feelings of hope that Joe always full name or only last name will win the fight, and Tan tries to become a typical white American girl in order to attract a boy that she likes. Angelou, being so young, mirrors the adults’ desire for the triumph of Joe Louis, who is viewed as the representative and hero of the oppression experienced by all black people. Because Conjunction beginning a sentence of all the blacks gathered in the store, Angelou is surrounded by blacks who are proudly rooting for Louis’ triumph, the African-American victory over decades of oppression suffered at the hands of whites. She is filled with this desire to win and is unashamed to take pride in her ethnicity. Unlike Angelou, Tan is ashamed of her race and wants to fit in with Americans.…

As Albert Einstein once said “It has become appallingly obvious that our technology has exceeded our humanity.” Throughout the years our technology has become more and more advanced, creating more and more inventions. Modern technology has been created to fulfill every human’s needs. With such great advancements it has become convenient for our society to turn to technology for all our questions. We have not realized that day by day technology is taking over us. Many like to argue that it is not true, but if you were to take away every possible form of technology away from them, it would make living for them very difficult. Now a day, technology has played such an important role in our lives that it seems almost impossible for many of us to live without it. Being said, modern technology has produced more inconveniences than conveniences.…

People have become extremely dependent on technology. Imagine that you are approaching a phone booth and unable to make a call because the area where you deposit the coins wouldn’t accept your quarters. Or you are unable to withdraw money from an ATM machine because the system is down. Then picture having to travel to another gas station because the electronic gas pumps are down at your favorite gas station, the one with the cheapest gas. Or how about a cashier being able to figure out what change is owed without the cash register displaying the information? What did people do before these types of equipment and systems were assisted by technology? They probable used a home telephone to make a call, a bank teller, a bicycle to get around and a pencil and paper or a calculator to figure out the amount of change to give back. Many people coped pretty well. In my opinion people have become so used to using technology they are not aware that they are dependent. It is normal because people are so use to finding items to assist them with completing a task easier and quicker than the previous generation did in the past. They do not realize they have become dependent until they are forced to do without.…

Nowadays, technology has become part and parcel of human life. Technology has a great influence on how people perform their duties in everyday life. Technology controls most of the things we do by bringing convenience and simplification of work. For instance, technology has helped us to communicate with relatives and friends through chatting, texting or emailing through the internet. However, with the rapid advancement in technology, many people have entirely dependent on what technology can help them, instead of focusing on what they can achieve independently. Bob Herbert (2010) asserts, “The blessed wonders of technology are overwhelming us. We do not control them; they control us”. This means that, although the development of technology has helped in improving our lives, the over reliance of it has negatively impacted on human abilities. The rise of technology has begun to replace human brains functions. For instance, people nowadays prefer storing simple information on their computers rather than memorizing it on their brains. Therefore, the over reliance on technological devices to perform simple tasks to made many people become lazy.…
