When you’re walking down a typical city street these days, it is hard not to bump into people who are so absorbed in their smartphones that they’re almost one with their gadgets, oblivious to the world around them. The youth of today are constantly immersed in technological advancements that promote nonstop communication and instant gratification, whether through cell phones, gaming systems, or laptops. But are these technological advancements a good thing? I believe that the growth of technology has negatively influenced the social interactions of today’s youth because it isolates individuals from reality, raises the lack of privacy and promotes higher health risks. The Internet can provide as an escape from reality. In real life, you may only communicate with a few people each day. While on the Internet or a game console, you can communicate with millions of people all over the world. Video games give us a bi-curious life like in world of warcraft. It allows us to be a completely different person digitalized. We would do things that we wouldn’t do in real life. Sometimes it seems we are each wrapped up in our own electronic world, a culture of cocoons It jeopardizes hours we could be spending interacting with the people from reality. Creating a lasting bond with other people requires face-to-face interaction. The more we isolate ourselves with technology the fewer bonds we will form. The Internet has stripped the world of privacy. With a few flicks on a keyboard the average person can find anyone’s address and contact information. For those with more evil intentions, viruses and hacking helps to find any information they wish to obtain. I recently saw an advertisement online to discover ones past family history; including their age, death, birthdate, family tree, etc. It baffles me how they would have all this information by you just signing up. Plus, people have no sense of privacy online. They don’t think twice about tweeting every move they make,
