Roman Technology and Engineering

Technology and engineering were among Rome's most famous achievements. In your paper, describe and explain the importance of Roman technology and engineering, especially as it related to making its giant cities livable. Cover at least two separate kinds of Roman technology and/or engineering.

Ancient roman construction was a form of technology. The two most important forms of roman construction were the Roman Roads and the Roman Aqueducts. Roman had many advances in construction. They had many different types of construction machinery that they were able to use to help them. They were able to use ropes, for binding or pulling. They were able to use them to help conserve energy. They used Pulleys, to help them with forces to go up or down. They also were able to use Winches. Winches were used like a hamster wheel. There was Military Technology

Military engineering was used to construct the camps, forts, bridges and roads. They also built ramps. Juliuse Ceasar was able to build a bridge in only ten days

Military Technology in ancient Rome

Roman technology is the engineering practice which supported Roman civilization and made the expansion of Roman commerce and Roman military possible over nearly a thousand years, if the Byzantine Empire is included.
The Roman Empire had one of the most advanced set of technologies of its time, some of which was lost during the turbulent eras of Late Antiquity and the early Middle Ages. Gradually, some of the technological feats of the Romans were rediscovered and/or improved upon, while others went ahead of what the Romans had done during the Middle Agesand the beginning of the Modern Era. Several Roman technological feats in different areas like civil engineering, construction materials, transport technology, and some inventions such as the mechanical reaper, were surprising achievements until the 19th century, and some, such as the arch, have remained untouched to this day.[citation needed] The Romans achieved high levels of technology in large part because they borrowed heavily from and absorbed the culture of the established Hellenised people of the Mediterranean basin.[citation needed]

Military engineering

Engineering was also institutionally ingrained in the Roman military, who constructed forts, camps, bridges, roads, ramps, palisades, and siege equipment amongst others. One of the most notable examples of military bridge-building in the Roman Empire was Julius Caesar's bridge over the Rhine River. This bridge was completed in only ten days by a dedicated team of engineers. Their exploits in the Dacian wars underTrajan in the early 2nd century AD are recorded on Trajan's column in Rome.
The army was also closely involved in gold mining and probably built the extensive complex of leats and cisterns at the Roman gold mine of Dolaucothi in Wales shortly after conquest of the region in 75 AD.
