Ted Talk Ted Talk Analysis
Dalia Mogahed begins her Ted Talk saying, “What do you think when you first look at me?” She explains in her video that people shouldn’t have negative perceptions of her faith. Because she is herself a Muslim, she speaks on experience on how the media has perceived Muslims as bad people. Due to the accusations, it has affected her life extremely. She hopes that people chose empathy over prejudice when the media, for example, or really anyone classifies them as bad people.
A stand out moment in which I believed to be moving was when she said, “80% of news coverage about Islam and Muslims are negative.” It’s sad to say it’s true though. Many other people including myself can say they have seen negative news coverage of Muslims and Islam. Because of the extremist group, ISIS, a lot of that negative news coverage has quickly risen. However, not all Muslims are terrorist or are oppressed, brainwashed potential terrorist, but somehow people tend to categorize these folks as that.
This stand out moment is my favorite. “It’s rhythmic beauty sometimes moves me to tears.” When she said this, she was speaking on the Quran and how much it means to her. She described the struggle, and the beauty of reading the Quran. For instance, she said, “I read and reflected and questioned and doubted it, and ultimately, believed.” Dalia also spoke on

A group who are simply heartless. However, Dalia said, “Isis has much to do with Islam as the Ku Klux Klan has to do with Christianity.” I’ve never heard of a comparison like that until her. After I actually compared the two, it seems they have much more in common then one might think. Obviously, they worship different religions, but both groups claim to base their ideology on their holy book. In addition, Dalia added that they’re not motivated by what they read In their holy book, its their brutality that makes them read these things into their

The first Ted Talk was about ben dunlap and his many Hungarian mentors. He mostly focused on Mr. Sandor Teszler and is the current president of Wofford College. His uncle Henry was living under a death threat from the Ku Klux Klan. His uncle did a very Hungarian act by moving his family to Massachusetts so that he could face the Ku Klan Klan alone in South Carolina. Thinking about it, I pretty sure I would do the same thing being in his situation. Hungarians have their own equivalent of the Ku Klux Klan which I found disturbing. Dunlap states that, “Sandor Teszler somewhat resembles Mahatma Gandhi, minus the loincloth and plus orthopedic boots.” He was teased for having two club feet.…

The first closed-ended question I have is: Does decision making related to psychology? The answer is definitely yes. Because in the first video David Redish said that : “Whether you are talking about neuroscience, psychology, or behavior economic, or robotics, they all come up with the same type of decision”. David Redish has studied the dynamic of brain and behavior, he has also published a book, he know this adequately. In my opinion, decision making is closed linked with brain and psychology, every behavior or decision that human made in daily life is strongly connected with our cerebrum.…

This Ted Ed Talk by Brene Brown discusses the idea of human connection and the power of accepting ones self. Brene discusses her journey to try to dissolve the mystery of vulnerability and the lack of human connection involved with it. Her research concludes that the best way to connect with others is to accept and embrace that you are vulnerable, and your vulnerabilities are a part of you. To be able to connect with others, you must first be able to connect with yourself. Brene discusses that vulnerability is a possible birth place for joy and love, art and beauty. Her research points out that we try to numb our vulnerabilities. However we go further and we numb our gratitude, happiness. We try to numb all of our emotions.…

As we know, nothing and no one is perfect. As humans, we all make mistakes that we are afraid to admit especially, on sensitive topics. In a Ted Talk by Jay smooth called, “How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love Discussing Race,” he provides many methods to approach the topic of racism. Due to the topic being very substantial, Smooth begins with a humorous story about his encounters with strangers. He explains that after introductions are finished, he usually has to explain his ethnicity to others as that is one of their first few questions. Throughout the talk, Smooth does a great job of using analogies, and emotions, to deliver his message to his audience.…

ISIS is also known for killing thousands of people, carrying out public executions, crucifixions, taking over large swaths of northern and western Iraq, and other acts. Their goal is to get more people to believe in Islam, and even become Muslims. All Muslims can agree that in our religious book, Quran, it is states ‘’no violence at all!’’ and to your own brothers, and sisters? Is a big no-no. So, this group is partially right to want to create an Islamic State, however it is not the right thing to do with violence. As it is, ‘’violence is never the answer!’’.…

In the video”What’s it like to be Muslim in America” by Dalia Mogahed “Muslims are inventors, teachers, first responders and olympic athletes, but some make the muslims look bad on the negative things they do” (Mogahed) what I mean is that no matter how much nice successful Muslims there are, there is always Muslims that make themselves look bad. For example, on the 9/11 attack, some muslims were disappointed because it’s just making the rest of the muslim people look bad. Also, some muslims were afraid to go outside because of how other people will think of them. I personally think bad about the Muslim people because of what occurred and I know I’m no one to judge others by their appearances or looks. It just scares me on what they did…

My favorite passage takes place after she gets in trouble for not wearing her scarf correctly. She states, "I want to argue. I feel like a child, defiant, but powerless. Burning with injustice, but also with a hint of shame. I do as I am told, feeling acutely conscious of the bare skin I am covering". I like this passage because you can really understand how she is feeling, and how difficult it is for her to adjust to two different life styles. Some of my friends from a Muslim country said “she should learn both culture in order to understand them. It is not hot to wear hijab when you are born and raised in Muslim society. It’s for to wear hijab because she didn’t practice her original culture. She was more western nice.”…

Her speech is structured into four sections, she anticipates the opposition straight away, opening by explaining that she is not going to say what her listeners expect. She does this with a rhetorical question, and asks two questions one after the other to create interest for her audience. She then answers both questions with a one word sentence, ‘No.’ This therefore has impact, and shoots down any opposition or preconceived ideas of what she would say or think in one clear word. She explains as soon as she opens what she is setting out to say, ‘I am saying that…’…

It’s so easy to create a professional website these days, one that looks trustworthy and reliable. Of course, that does not mean that the information contained within it is also reliable. You would think that would be obvious, we would all like to think that we’ve impervious to bullshit. Alas, that is not the case. We get tricked, mislead, and manipulated, and very often we’re totally unaware of it.…
