Have you ever been worried about your child getting involved with drugs? If you have or even if you haven’t, this is a great way to educate yourself on teen or adolescent drug usage. This paper consists of the country-wide issue of teen drug use. There are important facts and details that one may need to know if they are struggling with this issue. This paper will have information on the concerns and what the causes of drugs are, the agencies that are involved with stopping this issue and what can be done or what I would do to stop this problem. There are many concerns and things that are caused by drug use. One of the first concerns that have come up is drug related suicide. In 2010, 23% of suicide cases were drug related. Some drugs are very addictive and if a person run out of the drug that they are addicted to and cannot get more, that person may become depressed which may lead to suicide. Next, the percentage of teens that already have used drugs is another concern. 60% of kids said that drugs were kept, sold, and or used at their school. In 2012, 6.5% of eighth graders, 17% of tenth graders, and 23% of 12th graders said that they have used drugs ion the last month. Also, another concern that some parents have is how they can prevent their child from using drugs. Parents can help prevent their child from using drugs by discussing how drugs can affect a person with their child. Another way is to make sure their teen is surrounded by positive influences in their life. This is important information that may help in the fight against teen drug use. A lot has already been done by agencies to put a stop to illegal drug use. One agency that I found is called National Institute of Drug Abuse. This is a non-profit organization that focuses on keeping teens and adolescents from abusing drugs and educating them about drug use. Teens themselves help to create the website that is run by N.I.D.A. so the content given could really educate and hit home to
