Teen Suicide Taking Action: The words we need to discuss on this topic of teen suicide. What is it? Teens. Killing themselves for many, many reasons. When you think of a loved one dying, you always think it will happen because of old age or, God forbid, cancer. You never think of them actually doing it themselves. But this nightmare seems to only be the beginning. Millions of teens out there are risking their lives for some of the things in this world that shouldn’t even exist. For things that shouldn’t even be happening. Many of the reasons are as follows: Violence at home, death of a close one, feeling worthless, and the most important, Cyber-bulling. Being called names like “stupid”, “idiot”, “fat”, or “gay” might not seems like a big deal to you, but it can really affect someone’s life. Perhaps the teen that was bullied could commit suicide, which in 2005, over 50,000 people died a violent death. About 32,000 of those deaths were suicides. To make matters worse, 35% of those people were victims of Cyber Bullying. Next, teens take their lives, but what else for? Studies show that if a teen has had a loved one pass, or can cause severe depression, so having the possibility of the teen committing suicide.
Another example of a teen committing suicide is by being picked on, teased, laughed at, or rejected by friends. Feelings like this seen to be another main reason that a teenager would put their life in danger. Every single person in the world can make a difference. How? Help! Parents can take their teens to councilors, friends can talk to them, and anyone can make them feel cared about.
Most teens long for attention, even if they don’t show it, before they commit suicide. They just want someone to notice, so that what people need to do. They need to notice and let that girl or boy know that they’re cared about by their friends, family and peers. Suicide survivor, Clint Malarchuk, attempted to commit suicide in 2008. When he was not successful. He finally realized that he was alive for a reason. He was meant to live. A tragic event had happened almost causing him his life; that is when he got to this dark place and eventually attempted this terrible thing. Here’s his thoughts on suicide: “I think it is important for people to realize … Its a chemical imbalance, no different than diabetes … I don’t produce enough serotonin. I’ve always tried to emphasize that it’s not that you’re “mental”.” He also says after the fact: “I try to better myself with my thinking and emotions. For somebody like me, I have to do that because I can go into a dark place really quick if I’m not on top of those things.” As Plato once said, “Be kinder than necessary; everyone is fighting some kind of battle. You may not hear their screams, but they’re calling out for help.” Everyone needs to come together and end this terrible thing that exists. Make it cease to exist. Make it only a memory. No matter what the circumstances, nobody deserves to feel worthless. If all of us intend to come together as once, we can put a stop to teen suicide, and trust me, no one would regret making a life changing impact on someone else’s life.
