Teenage Pregnancy
Survey Analysis: The survey consisted of 52 participants, 26 males and 26 females. The target age group is 18 to 32. The participants vary from different universities, high schools, and work places around Bangkok. We decided to collect 52 responses because asking questions about Teenage pregnancy can be very sensitive and we are only using the survey to get opinions of people.
1. Were you educated about safe sex in high school?

90 percent of the participants said “yes” to this question which leaves 10 percent that were not educated about safe sex when they were young. This data shows that there are still some schools that do not teach students about safe sex. So the question would be if Thailand can minimize this number, will the rate of teenage pregnancy be lower?

2. How do you think about having sexual intercourse before you are 18?

It can be seen that up to 16 percent agreed that having sexual intercourse before 18 is perfectly okay. While 46 percent disagree. It can be stated that people are now being more open to sex; however, 16 percent is still relatively low compare to the number of people who disagree.
The flaw of this question is that it can be too sensitive for some people and therefore it might not be give us the accurate data.

3. What part of the society do you think can influence teenagers into sexual intercourse the most?

This question tells us about the most influential group of the society that has the most impact on teen’s actions (in their opinions). This is significant because the data shows one of the direct sources that can make teenager get involve in having sexual intercourse. More than half of the participants chose “friends” and 33 percent chose “media”. This gives us the basic idea of where to start.

These data simply shows that teenagers are aware of the consequences of teenage pregnancy and most of them believe that something needs to be done about the issue. Up to 75 percent said that Thailand needs to enforce more rules and regulations in educated teenagers about safe sex.
5. If you are pregnant (or made someone pregnant), what would you do?

Surprisingly, up to 19 percent of the people chose abortion is an answer if they get pregnant (or made someone pregnant). This shows the changing of the Thai’s culture. To support this question we created more questions related to abortion since if can become one of our solutions of teenage pregnancy problem in Thailand. From this data it can be seen that 34 percent agreed that Thailand should legalize abortion 21 percent disagree and 44 percent are neutral. This supports the idea that abortion is becoming normal to people and it can also be stated that people think abortion is a fair solution to prevent many consequences that might follow teenage pregnancy. From this survey we can conclude that sex is becoming normal to teenagers because of many factors, such as, friends and media. Yet, people are aware of the consequences of this problem and think that something will need to be done to prevent the problem from getting further. Legalizing abortion can be one of the solutions to this problem. However, legalizing abortion cannot be the main solution; it can only help prevent further problems when a teenager decided to keep the child but does not have enough knowledge to do so.
