Teens Should Be Charged As Adults For Violent Crimes

Breaking news there was a shooting today three people were killed. The shooter will face life in prison on three counts of murder. The shooter was sixteen. Teens being charged as adults doesn’t happen very often in the U.S. According to ojjdp.gov, for every 100,000 minors between ten and seventeen, 157 of them commit violent crimes about. That’s 34,650 teens who commit violent crimes such as this every year. Teens should be charged as adults for violent crimes because violent crimes are adult crimes, the victims suffer, and They aren’t safe in this world alone.
Violent crimes are adult crimes. No matter who the person is, “The end result of a heinous crime remains the same, no matter who commits it. Our justice system depends upon holding perpetrators responsible for their actions” (Reaves). Juveniles who commit violent crimes are committing the same crimes and the crimes have the same end results, so they should have the same consequences. Let’s say a thirty year old adult commits murder and
kills somebody. That person would most likely get life in prison. So now let’s imagine the offender was a sixteen year old doing the same thing. They did the same thing, they ended someone’s life and hurt the people that care, So why should the teenager go with lesser punishment? Most teenage Americans know that violent crimes are wrong. In a survey sent out to high school students, over fifty percent said that they believed the maturity level was set between fifteen and sixteen years of age. they believe they are ready to be adults at that age. By age sixteen most Americans know the laws and know the consequences to their violent outbursts. Furthermore, most teens agree that adult punishment is efficient. eighty seven percent of the student responses agreed that adult punishment was an ideal punishment. If teens are agreeing that their crimes are serious enough to be charged as adults, then they know what’s happening is wrong. They know they deserve the punishment they get. Therefor No matter who commits the crime all violent crimes should be treated as an adult.

Someone is hurting because of the crime. For every action there is a reaction. When someone commits a violent crime, the victim and its family are suffering because of the pain they are dealing with. Why should a teenager who could be so heartless get let go, while a family gets to suffer the rest of their lives dealing with the emotional struggles. People can suffer from mental disorders.. These teenagers who hurt someone’s life and might have possibly ruined them mentally forever, deserve life in prison. You only have one life and i think if they can ruin someone else’s life they don’t deserve to live theirs happy. Some of these struggles effect more than just the victimthe strugglescan effect their families too. Teens who commit violent crimes are tearing people’s lives apart. The physical injury suffered by victims may be as apparent as cuts, bruises, or broken arms and legs. Imagine what it’s like to live with those scars even after the wounds heal. How would someone cope with the constant reminder? Thus teens should have to do the time and be punished for the pain and suffering they caused the victims of their crimes.
These Teens are not safe for the public and it’s not safe for them in public.
Bjs.gov states “the rate of murder committed by teenagers, ages fourteen to seventeen jumped a tragic twenty two percent. ” If we keep letting these teens go the crime won’t stop!something needs to be done about these numbers or it will keep getting worse. This was over a four year period so in twenty years at this rate murders committed will more than double. They also state “The largest increase in juvenile homicide involves offenders who are friends and acquaintances of their victims.” If they are willing to turn on their friends what’s stopping them from turning on anyone else. They shouldn’t be trusted. Suicide is the third leading cause of death among teenagers -- over 1,500 teens kill themselve s each yearMost teens who commit violent crimes are unstable which could lead to this problem. It’s not safe for them to be alone. They should be in a facility or locked up before they hurt someone

All in all teens who commit violent crimes are unstable and shouldn’t be trusted alone or out in our public,they are dangerous and that effects our safety.
In closing teens who commit a violent crimes should be charged as adult for the obvious fact that they are committing adult crimes that hurt people and create a potential threat to people in this world. this is an act upon which the people of the united states have a choice, by voting this can be made a law. Without the law it’s like letting a guilty person go. Don’t let the guilty people free for their serious crime. They can hurt our country…. Ruin our country.
