When buyers compare cars, they often tend to be rational, which leads to choosing the available option that leads to the outcome he or she most prefers. This doesn’t always mean that it will leave them in a better economic payoff. We look at Concerns about Fairness, Bounded Rationality and Risk Aversion to explain why. Concerns about fairness has a buyer asking themselves “Am I gettingthe best deal here? Do they really think this car is right for me? Or are they just trying to get my money?”. Bounded Rationality explains a buyer that chooses a product because it’s close to what they want but doesn’t exactly give the best possible economic outcome. Thirdly, Risk Aversion is a buyer willing to sacrifice some economic payoff in order to avoid a potential loss. If buying a car is the Prisoner’s Dilemma, then it is ultimately better for the salesman and the buyer to come together and reach an agreement (collude) than it is for either of them to try to act independently of one another. The article also brings up the point that because electric cars satisfy a need to “do one’s part” for the environment, the extra cost of paying for a luxury automobile like a Tesla may be offset by a perceived karmic gain.III. FinanceAs mentioned previously, Tesla has reduced its manufacturing costs by using many smaller, inexpensive, mass-produced…

It is also no secret that gasoline prices have steadily increased over the years, and four dollars a gallon does not exactly agree with our wallets. In an effort to "go green" and save money on gasoline, hybrid cars have recently become a great option for those interested in getting high gas mileage and saving lots of money… or so they think. Although hybrid cars have high gas mileage and extend the time between visits to the pump, reviewing the raw facts about hybrid cars while asking the question "Do hybrid cars seem like a money-saving solution?" is a wise decision.…

They also suggested that we look at alternative energy sources and explore the development of higher efficient vehicles. The automobile industry is currently looking for ways to contribute to the success of America’s vision and are introducing vehicles that draw their power from electricity rather than the traditional gasoline engine. “We are on the verge of an automotive revolution.” states author, William White in his article,” Why the Gasoline Engine Isn’t Going Away Any Time Soon.” (Behrens & Rosen, p534-535). Electric or hybrid cars are environmentally safer than the traditional engine however, the cost and repair of such vehicles are very high. Battery replacements for a hybrid vehicle can run a consumer thousands of dollars. The manufacturers are trying to combat this negative with longer extended warranties that include the vehicle’s battery. It is believed that the amount to time that these vehicles have been on the road is not enough time to determine the true value of them and that as time passes, this information will become apparent, or not. First, when purchasing a vehicle a consumer should not only be concerned with the purchase price, but with the cost of repairs as well. The initial cost of gasoline powered cars is around 75% lower than a hybrid for these reasons: hybrids have very expensive batteries, a different engine design which complicates manufacturing, and they are basically mobile computers that make them difficult to repair without special training. Regardless of which type of vehicle you own, many people think that the initial cost of a vehicle is bad enough and then something bad happens. Repairs can cause your wallet to take another large hit. Simple moving parts are bad enough when a door handle breaks off, but what if one of the computer parts fails or your electrical system has a malfunction? This happens with both gasoline and hybrid cars, but repairing your hybrid means twice the amount of money. For example, the battery in a hybrid has a limited shelf life and when it does need to be replaced it can cost from $3,000 to $6,000, but you can buy a…
