INTRODUCTION The system of punctuation is one of the most important systems of the language. The nature and function of such insufficiently studied both in terms of general linguistics, and from the point of view of the individual languages. There is no theory of punctuation, which would correspond to the theoretical level of the science of language. From this statement it is difficult not to agree with respect to both the English and to punctuation. Hence the relevance of the theme of our research, that is the theoretical comparative review of the English and Russian systems of punctuation. Scientific problem in this study supports the need for theoretical generalization, analysis of existing information on the nature of the system as punctuation, trends, regulations and laws in
