As a result of my supervisor being at a conference this week,
I had to start the termination process with her. As our lecture discussed, I had a range of emotions and I must say it was more difficult than I expected. My supervisor was amazing. I truly appreciate all of the time she has taken to help me grow professionally as a social worker. She has poured into my life over the semester like no other supervisor I have ever had (including internship experiences and work). She is so knowledgeable in a variety of areas, and she took the time to share several of her experience with me.
I feel confident that I should be able to work in any area of social work and do well. I feel that working in the social services field for nearly 12 years, completing my MSW, and the field experiences I have had have all equipped me for the next chapter of my life in the field of social work. I must say, saying good bye to my clients and see you later to my supervisor after such a brief period have me feeling forever grateful for all of my educational learning experiences.
My plan for this week includes shadowing the Psychosocial Rehabilitation and Recovery Center’s (PRRC) program. I have met with the young lady that I will be shadowing while my supervisor is gone and she has given me some insight on the program. She explained that her favorite part of her job is seeing the veterans when they enter the program and the amount of skills they have learned upon completion. She reported that she enjoys watching the veterans implement the skills that they have learned and how their lives change right before their eyes. I will also be processing out of the VA by doing my exit briefing, and I have been told that takes quite some time. Then once my internship is complete, I will be headed to Tallahassee for graduation. I am really excited because this is a moment in which I have waited. Immediately after graduation, my family and I are going on vacation where I will receive tons of self-care.
I would like to thank Ms. Deckerhoff and Ms. Brown for ensuring that we as social work students knew the importance of practicing proper self-care. This has been an area that I have really struggled with in the past and by you all bringing it to the forefront I was able to pay closer attention and sure that I was able to practice it weekly. I even started taking my 15 minute breaks twice a day after receiving a suggestion from Ms. Brown and it really makes a difference.
